I hope there's a cheap version and an expensive one... the cheaper one with a more ordinary body (materials). That neck strap is a bit excessive, isn't it? How often can you repeat Pentax on one strap?

This thing looks expensive, premium, and attractive. Retro, but not as retro as the X1 Pro (unfortunately).

Seems to be a relatively big camera, not that much smaller than my *istDs. But that's ok when we can use our old lenses (and get a discounted 40mm DA L...). I'd rather have something that's equivalent to 24-28mm though... more useful to me to keep that on the camera all the time.

Why redesign the 40mm?

*Edit
Original DA40: dimension 63mmx15mm, weight 90g, filter size 49mm
New DA40 XS: dimension 63mmx9mm, weight 52g, filter size 27mm

40mm XS lens specifications:

RiceHigh's Pentax Blog: Breaking News! Specifications of the New DA 40mm F2.8 XS Lens Leaked!!

QuoteQuote:
smc PENTAX-DA 40mmF2.8 XS Specification:

Lens Mount: PENTAX KAF Mount

Aperture: F2.8
Minimum Aperture: F22
Lens Construction: 5 elements in 4 groups
Angle of View: 39 (with PENTAX D-SLR camera body)
Minimum Focusing Distance: 0.4m
Maximum Magnification: 0.13x
Number of Diaphragm Blades: 9
Filter Diameter: 27mm
Maximum Diameter & Minimum Length: 62.9mm x 9.2mm
Weight: 52g

1. Exterior design by Marc Newson
Together with the PENTAX K-01 camera body, the exterior of this lens has been designed by Marc Newson. Mounting this lens on the K-01 results in a highly stylish imaging tool.

2. Easy-to-use, super-thin lens for everyday use
This unifocal standard lens offers a focal length equivalent to 61mm in the 35mm format, and measures a mere 9.2 millimeters in length, making it the world’s thinnest interchangeable lens. Thanks to its super-thin design, it is highly portable and easy to store and carry. Its optics were designed based on those of the acclaimed smc PENTAX-DA 40mm F2.8 Limited lens. Its maximum aperture of F2.8 produces sharp, bright images in a wide range of applications, including snapshots, scenic photos, portraits, and even incident-light indoor shooting.

3. Exceptional image-description
In addition to numerical evaluations made by various testing machines, PENTAX has also conducted an image-quality evaluation of hundreds of images actually taken with this lens. As a result, it not only offers outstanding specifications, but also demonstrates exceptional image descriptive power and an image rendition unique to this lens. It features a round-shaped diaphragm, which produces a smooth, natural bokeh (out-of-focus) effect in the background.

4. SP coating to block dirt and dust
The front surface of this lens is treated with SP (Super Protect) coating, which applies an exclusive fluorine compound to the lens surface through a vapor deposition process. This SP coating not only repels dust, water and grease, but also makes it easy to wipe off oily stains such as fingerprints and cosmetics.

It's got a shake reduction badge on the front! That seems like good news.

And people start bashing the camera right at the moment it has been leaked in other forums. Kind of make me believe that those big two do pay people to bash other brands for no apparent reasons.

No, people hate all of the Canikons before they are released too.

The list of lenses supported as shown in the picture; I can see the DA, DA*s. Did anyone see the FA limited in the picture?

Maybe, but I recall that there are many times people start gunning at Pentax when it appears in rather calm environment.

Very true. It's built for hip consumers and shiny, flashy, and instant sell in that market.

To include the FA's would probably make the picture too large to even see the camera

The leaked photo of the battery door with the designers signature isnt a WR door when you look at Pentax's releases on the K5/7 vs those on the K-x/r.

I'm thinking that the K-01 is on the left, there's a K-5 next to it, and the one wrapped in yellow tape is the new FF, conveniently wrapped up because it's top secret.. I mean if we're going to speculate... let's go all the way here.
