First... nice that Pentax come out with a APS-C size mirrorless camera. At least we see what is possible with Ricoh-Pentax.

2nd, this camera is ugly. I can't believe it. It's like half GXR, half retro Pentax, a strange hybrid. Damn Mark.

I rather they make it a GXR k-mount module if it is not WR; or just go all the way for a retro look. This look is like an old nanny wearing a miniskirt trying to look young. >__<

No way is the K-01 ugly, now the Ricoh GXR is ugly, really ugly. This K-01 looks fantastic to me.... I guess I must be in the target demographic

Apologies, no offence intended. Lame attempt at humour.
Ocker just means Aussie over here and it all sounds like strine to us.

Thanks.

"Some Ocker" sounded dismissive and I got kinda roused because we aren't all like that.

PS: Ocker is in fact a negative term describing a jingoistic and unsophisticated Australian who speaks Strine. A Yobbo, a Bogan.. an idiot etc

Spending more time looking at it... it is actually the tube-like thing that protrude out to accommodate the dial destroying the look. Its like a factory exhaust pipe, or like an old man smoking a pipe....and really no need to be there.
I hope it sell.... so we have a chance at a FF camera.

and.... the new DA 40 lens is ugly too compare to the 40mm ltd. I was really hoping the design by that guy will beat every mirrorless camera in the market.

Getting back to the pictures: Are these real pictures or 3D mockups?

It looks to be a K-r replacement in some respects, due to limited features, so I would hope there's another big surprise announcement soon as well as this. Or perhaps this is an elaborate hoax.

There's no DOF preview on the On/OFF latch either.. maybe there's a function button for that.

The more I look at these shots the more I think it's a fake. They look like 3D renderings. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

My first reaction (and those that I showed the pictures to) was: "OMG, Ricoh has painted Pentax with its ugly brush!"

I'd also say it looks to be more of a replacement to my beloved K-R.

I say that with a disappointed tone. Looks GREAT for a mirrorless, but TERRIBLE for an SLR.

Ricoh had no time to do anything other than just give a nod to this. To me the design looks like an SUV?truck engine/motor, I almost want to pour oil down the mode dial.

It is definitely not ugly, a masculine design. Definitely not as bad as Ricoh GXR or the Samsung NX 100 or NX 10 (NX 200 is lovely) or even the V1.

Different than the NEX and 4/3rds and I think that's a good thing, but these are all decent looking cameras.

Overall the looks is neutral to me...not like a Fuji X100 where you want to get the camera almost just for looks (lol). I like the button. mode dial layouts. But due to the size and the placement the user experience should be much more pleasant than other mirrorless.

I will enjoy holding and using it. But, as I already have the K-5 and a K-7 I am not planning to get one.

Why are they still not showing the back where there could be a VF?

I hope pentax tweaked the CDAF over the K-5 (otherwise it will be a tough sell) and they price competitively against the NEX-5 or NEX-7 depending on whether it has an EVF or not. I am so glad Pentax chose to keep the K-mount for it's mirrorless venture.

Overall it has the potential to be an excellent product!

P.S: If they are still hiding an EVF and Pentax had tweaked CDAF to be par with competition and priced under US$1k, then this would be a HUGE hit. Then I might get one eventually.
