I currently have the K-x and have been jonesing to move up to the K-5. Now that the K-01 is due to be released, I will need to decide down which path my photography lies. I would love to see an in-depth review of the K-01, and in particular, a compare and contrast to the K-5 for amateur photography.

I would like an early review as well. I see this K-01 as the replacement of the K-r and I'm curious as too see how it compares to it.

One major negative point for me as least: no viewfinder.
Agreed. I would love to have that camera, but no viewfinder, for me, is a total deal breaker. I have tried my best to use a back screen to focus and compose, but I feel completely separate from the process, the picture appears too tiny to relate to, and I can't brace the camera sufficiently. Also, no EV adjustment, something I use constantly.

Isn't there an exposure compensation button right next to the rear dial?

Hmmmm, I don't know. I got my info here, in this paragraph:

QuoteQuote:
The K-01 unfortunately seems to have lost Sv and TAv modes, two popular modes found on higher-end Pentax DSLRs in which you set the sensitivity and the camera does the rest, and you set the shutter speed and aperture and the camera sets the sensitivity, respectively. A few K-5 features, such as 2-5 frame bracketing and EV shifts of up to 5, have been excluded as well, hinting at what target audience this camera is aimed for.

I think that just means EV compensation can only be used up to 3 stops, like the K-x.
