This is shocking actually. Does someone knows if the K-01 overheat in video mode like the k-5 does ? (sorry if this already been told but this topic is huge)
I shoot a lot of video with my K-5 and i was used to do the trick of locking the exposure with AE-L to avoid exposure pumping. When i learned the K-01 had full manual control even of the sound i, obviously, got very exited and thought "finally". But this "no hdmi out in video mode" is non-sens...
Yep. I couldn't believe it either when I found out.

I was going to use the K-01 as my video platform until I learned that. I still hold out hope that a firmware update will take care of it, and if it does, then I will probably get a K-01. Although my guess is the K-r replacement will do at least 1080p, so I will probably get that or the rumored K5n or updated K5 or whatever.

I guess in a nutshell - the K-01 - was a missed opportunity for Pentax to get me to buy it over something as simple as HDMI out in record mode.

I say about final quality of video. Not about features.

With that sensor size, there is still plenty of room for dslr video. it's RAW capabilities are great, but the lens and depth of field advantages go to cameras with larger sensors.
But DOF is never so much a problem with video, you actually do need some DOF to make focus tracking easier so it's not a big advantage besides many film have used the S16 format and that one is slightly smaller then the sensor in this camera.

I would chose motion JPEG over h.264 as my source video, more information to play with is always better.
The 5 extra frames might have come in handy but not a real deal breaker.
K-01 has focus peaking but not during recording so no added value there.

So overall the only thing the k-01 has going for as a real plus is the added manual control.

I believe they didn't used the new Fujitsu Milbeaut image processor for the K-01.
It more looks to me that it's related to the processor in the Q so hopefully the upcoming DSLR will have the Fujitsu Milbeaut in them

I am excited about the black magic camera. My point was just that due to the small sensor size and lens selection, there is still room for dslr video. I've shot plenty of 16mm film. However, it is not a format for which most people have lenses. Especially wide lenses.

Yeah i wished they put a m4/3 mount on it, you have more adaptors for that and m4/3 lenses would be perfect because the crop is almost the same and you would have access to some amazing leica lenses as well.
But the canon mount isn't bad either lenses like 12-24, tokina 11-16, and sigma 8-16 would do quite well. They won't be super wide but wide enough for most applications.

Yes, there is a small number of options. I would still feel much better using a lens designed for the image circle than using a lens with a 2.3 crop factor. I also wonder how the distance markings are on those lenses. Not to mention that the selection of manual focus primes is even more limited.

New info from users - HD 60/50 fps video mode is better than all others modes with 30/25 fps.

^ what do you mean by that? what kind of benefits are they finding?

because I absolutely hate anything 30p and over
50p and 60p look like a cheap soap opera, no matter what camera you use to record them. I wouldn't use them unless it is for slow motion

reasons here:
MacVideo - Camera Technology - Interviews - Stu Maschwitz: DV Rebel - shooting 24P
Prolost - Blog - Your New TV Ruins

very low jello effect and more smooth video stream with 50/60 fps

"more smooth video stream with 50/60 fps" is precisely what I want to avoid
curious about the jello, though

So were is a link to a direct comparison of the K-5 vs K-01 with the same lens, settings etc ? I have not seen any better quality in the K-5 vs the K-01 when I viewed native raw video files from both. If M-JPEG was better than h.264 Nikon would not have switched in to h.264 in the D800 from M-JPEG in the D3s.

two points to ponder....
one: some of the best filmmakers or our time are actually pushing for faster frame rates at the theatres to improve the look of film...
CinemaCon: James Cameron Demos the Future of Cinema at 60 FPS | FirstShowing.net

two:
I believe the lower compression mjpeg of the k-5 would also have a slight advantage in editing if you do a lot of chroma keying.... however... a newer k-5n might just answer all my concerns where the k-01 fell short... so I'm still hopeful!

RE: James Cameron and 48p:
of course I know
but that only makes sense for 3D (which I don't like anyway)
on 2D, it looks like poo

edit: that's just my opinion; if you like high fps, by all means go that way; to each his own
