Why a "long lens" and K-01 may not mix.

I hear a lot of people claim long lenses are not hand-holdable, or not for long. But I can take pictures for hours with my 300mm f/2.8 even with a 1.4x or 2x TC because I use the handhold attached (photo by Ron Reznick). And of course while I'm not taking or setup waiting for a shot, my arms are down. So I can walk or hike and take photos using this handhold for hours even with a 600mm.

Since the furthest the camera can be away from my eyes with that handhold where the stability provided is still effective is about 2 inches, it's impossible for my eye to focus on the back LCD screen when it's that close.

So I guess if I were to get one the K-01 would never go out with me on an outing when I'm using my heavy glass?

That makes me have to think long and hard if I'd get one for that reason.

Oh paleeze, handholding a 600mm for hours ? I use a tripod with my long lenses. The K-01 will replace my K-7 for shooting HD video with K-mount lenses.

Oh Great. It's going to be like that? So did you get past the 1st sentence or paragraph before flipping off to argue?

I only take my tripod out if I'm staying in one place during an outing or not traveling far from a spot.

I'll use a monopod too if I don't plan on pointing up greater than about 30 degrees.

If I'm hiking / walking a few miles and shooting, especially to shoot BIF, I'm doing it freehand. End.

Maybe instead of flipping off if you were to try the handhold, you might surprise yourself. ... and then read the rest of the post and see my point.

A K1 may be useful with long lenses on tripod for shy animals cause it will be silent.

Now that could certainly change things.

Tho I don't think I can still use the grip illustrated, as it'll be the camera body, not lens's tripod collar that'll be sitting on my elbow. And in that case, no, I'm not going to go long or far with my 300 + 2x TC ; tho with just the 300mm may be possible (but not ideal).

What is the point of having a mirrorless camera if you have to add a huge loupe viewfinder to use it?

I think the K-01 has an advantage in this respect to many other mirrorless options.

There are many mirrorless cameras out there with no VF, like the Nex-5, NX100 and many 4/3rds. Also, even the ones with the VF some of them are so small it's difficult to hand hold.

So, the larger K-01 with SR is better than many in this respect.

If one is using long glasses, the ideal would be an SLR.

P.S: There is indeed no substitute for a tripod for long lenses.

I shoot most HD videos with my Panasonic GH2 and TM700 3MOS camcorder using the LCD and not the EVF that is in both. Do you people think it's impossible to use the LCD like 99.9999% of camera users on the planet in 2012 ? What do you think I used with my K-7 in video mode ?
