However, I proposed a slightly different color variation: the black version, but with the bottom shell and upper shell and all upper shell elements all silver. IMHO, this would look as serious and slightly more interesting / retro, a bit like the K-5 Silver.

Their idea of all black is actually black with silver. The PDF is describing the main body panel and color of the rubber.

As it stands now:
black case + silver top + black rubber
white case + black top + black rubber
black case + silver top + yellow rubber

If you buy both the silver and the black version, I wonder how hard it would be to swap out all the components so that one is all silver, and the other all black?

Technically, I think that is a "white" version. Pentax USA lists it as such.

I thought of the same exact idea. I think it might work depending on how the flash area attaches to the rest of the body (it has a seam).

I'd want to do it just to prove a point, but who really wants to reward their odd color choices in buying two of them?

+1 for All Black... Given the fact that they have the components already tooled (used on the silver version), this should be an easy implementation for Pentax. I personally think the camera has a much better look in all black. Quite frankly I did not like the camera when I saw it this week, but I am warming up to it now that I see it in all black.
