I would wager that on average the Olympus would carry more mass appeal since it is more of a "traditional" camera, while the X-Pro 1 and K-01 would likely be less popular but highly interesting to particular groups.

I agree regarding the Olympus. I've been looking for a more-portable alternative to my K-7. I own several Pentax lenses and love the 77mm, but the K-01's lack of a viewfinder steered me to pre-order the new Olympus OM-D. I sincerely hope Pentax sells gazillions of their new camera, but the K-01 w/o a viewfinder seems to me to be a heavy point-and-shoot with potentially wonderful image quality.

I agree with you but there was someone on here telling me that my friends - people they've never met - would universally choose the Olympus and Fuji over the K01.

3 out of 5 of my layman friends thought K-01 looked rather nice.
So that certainly throws the 'ppl won't choose the K-01' "fact" out the window

Just checked and #1-#5 are Olympus and on #6 K-01.White #7 Fuji #8 NX200 #9 V1 #10 K01 Black #11 K-01 Yellow

So that ain't to bad and consistend with my expectation of sales where Olympus wins and Fuji is dead last.

This doesn't surprise me. Reality is people most likely to pre-order are the same people who buy the high end. this holds in all areas of electronics. something targeted more entry level is highly unlikely to do well on pre orders - the customer is far different, and reality is these do better 2-3 months in to their life - entry customers don't spend their lives on the interwebz checking every rumor and spec and pixel peeping, when they are ready to buy they are far more likely to walk into a store pick up a few different items and make a decision then and their without doing masses of research. At most they will ask a trusted friend for advice ( I always dreaded the trusted Friend when i was in retail 9 times out of 10 they were completely misinformed and gave horrible advice pushing their friend to buy what they really wanted as opposed to what suited their friends needs)

Good points Look for steady numbers for the Pentax.

Will get interesting when more group tests are done how the Pentax stacks up against the more expensive rivals

I am surprised that the sale/pre-order numbers are so high for the K-01. I wonder how much of this is based on availability/volume (think that Pentax has much more potential than Fuji)? It seems like the Fuji preorder went up and then down a couple times on Amazon based on what they expected for shipments.

The other thing that would be interesting to know is how many non-Pentaxians are purchasing the K-01. Based on my limited experience, on some of the "neutral" enthusiast forums like serious compacts (some pentax users there even), I feel like I am the only person in the world that purchased a K-01 without already owning K lenses. There is a whole lot more interest about the XPro1.

This is all interesting conversation, but at the end of the day, I am very happy with the K-01 and it is meeting my expectations and requirements.

Must be something wrong with his unit. Mine lasts about 400-500 shots and more if only OVF and no chimping. Shutter lag is more perceivable than X100 but not much slower. If he set frameline for lens focal length at 53mm he will get the more accurate one. Aperture ring can be set as intended. Also, focusing ring is velocity sensitive, not turn sensitive. He will not focus fast if he keeps turning it again and again.

He probably never read a manual before using the camera.

Interesting - I have not seen this described anywhere before. So how does it work? Quick turns adjust fast and slow steady turning is used for precision focusing?

The Fuji only has THREE lenses and it is still out selling any camera Pentax makes. K-mount support is irrelevant to 98% of the camera buyers in the world.

How can this be, the Fuji isn't even on the market yet ?
