Full manual video controls

In this video, the reviewer states that the K-01 has "some pro video features" such as "gain control" and "manual control full". Hope it's true. Also hope they enabled CDAF in video mode for those coming from the P&S world.

On Amazon...

"Video record options are flexible, offering the photographer to select aperture or shutter exposure control"

That OR has me worried, suggesting that you can choose Aperture priority OR Shutter priority, but not Manual.

At least I have the GH2

That sounds reasonable, since the camera doesn't have 2 e-dials. However, if your lens has an aperture ring and you can control shutter speed, technically speaking that means you can achieve full manual control by using an FA series lens.

From TCSJordan, the guy that shoot this video (see his post here):

I've used the camera, and there is full manual control in video mode. It just needs to be enabled in the menu and the dial must be set to 'M'. Then you can control shutter speed, aperture, ISO, audio levels, and white balance.

while I have no plans to purchase the K-01, this is really good news to me because it can mean a number of things. 1: the next pentax flagship (maybe even all the upcoming models) will have full manual video controls 2: a possible firmware update for at least the k-5 to add full manual video controls and 3: that Pentax is at least listening to us to some degree, and maybe now that they are under Ricoh, they will be able to more easily and quickly employ the desires of their customers into the cameras they engineer.

Pentax is not dumb, they know full manual control in video mode along with h.264 1080p 30,25,24 and 720p @ 60fps is the #1 reason people will get the K-01 and they will not upgrade the K-5 firmware just like the K-7.

@jogiba
i also think like that but i still hope that they will introduce a new firmware with manual video control for the k5 at least...it's a waste on the camera if they won't do that.

I have a K-01 (pre-production) with me right now. From the menu, you can set video exposure control to either 'P/Av/M' mode, movie format can be set to FullHD/HD/VGA in 30/25/24fps and Quality Level of ***/**/*. Can also adjust recording sound level (for both internal or external mic), can enable/disable SR, can shoot interval videos, can do AF by either press the shutter button or AF/AE-L button (customizable) ...

Thank you! That helps, and I look forward to getting mine! Unlike others, I'm not yet convinced that Pentax intended the K-01 to be a video beast. While manual control of video helps Pentax catch up with others, the lack of a headphone output jack means that there's no way to monitor audio. unless either the PC/AV or HDMI port has an audio signal while recording video. Still, you'd need an adapter of some sort.

So while I'm looking forward to testing out the video when I get my grubby paws on one, I'll still need to record and monitor audio separately and merge in post.

I wonder if AF would work in video mode with my 85mm F1.4 with Pentax F 1.7x AF Teleconverter .

sounds great
not only they add full manual exposure control in video, but also they add manual audio level control...
these two feature makes k-01 a very nice HDSLR..the only gripe is no evf..because then I still have to add that bulky LCD viewfinder..

You shoot videos with the K-01 just like the K-7, K-5, Q, Canon and Nikon DSLRs using the LCD.

I mean if it has evf, u already got one point of stablizer for shooting hand held video..
but since it has no evf, one has to add that LCD viewfinder for that purpose

I only shot a few short clips of FullHD video in 30fps, don't see any line skipping in those. But I'm really not a video guy, don't really know how good/bad the quality is to compare w other cameras.
