Thanks creampuff and pinholecam for the heads up. I guess we all had a great time there

Here are some Pentaxians joined the party today to play the K01 (taken by K01 and DA21 Ltd):

It surprises me why people keep writing the names of cameras wrong :P

K10D, K20D, K-7, K-5, K-r, K-x, K-01.

Not K 10D, K10 D, D-700, D 700, 5 D, 5-D etc :P I know, I'm knit picking, but still, it's annoying :P

Some asked if the 40 XS lens can work on K5. Just want to let you know that the lens works on K5 as well as on K01 (K01+40 XS):

Although you guys have seen enough K-01 photos, here I share a few taken by myself anyway:

K-01 w 40 XS:

The new 40mm lens is really really thin, and it got a unique push-on type rubber lens cap:

I just lover to take those silver FA Limited lenses, they look pretty good on the new K-01 camera:

...and let's not get started on apostrophes! Volvo's, indeed!

The really interesting question is: "which one of you blokes has the K-01 in his backpack?"

Seriously, I don't think it's any wiser to compare the K-01 with an M9, than it is to compare it with a DSLR, because it's clearly aimed at a different market segment to either. The main competition will come from the mirrorless compacts like the NEXes and the Samsung NXes, possibly also the various Pens and the Panasonic MILCs. I doubt it will compete to any significant extent with the Fujifilm Xes or the forthcoming OMD. I think it will carve out niches of its own among landscapers, and maybe videographers. Of course, if it gets an optional EVF at some stage, all present bets will be off.

Yeah, count me in!

How fast is it in processing? Is it faster then K-5? How much time is the screen of when you take a little burst of pictures? is it like with K-5 that you cannot handle the camera at that time?

Yes, but that is a bit different IMO, that's grammar, not just writing names correctly :P

One more request for AF speed opinion from people who used the K-01.

Yes, the new DA40 works pretty well on both the K-01 and K-5. Originally I thought the focusing was a bit slower than the 40 Ltd, but today we did some comparison, actually the new one focues slightly faster. It's a tiny lens w/ very thin focusing ring, the manual focus ring is surprisingly very smooth, as smooth if not smoother than the original 40 Ltd. Optically it's about the same as the 40 Ltd, but the built quality is not as good as the earlier version, probably the new one has a plastic barrel (if you call that a barrel ) and focusing ring.

What a happy bunch the Singaporean Pentaxians look! I like the shots of the camera too, especially with the Ltd lenses. Beginning to - begrudgingly - warm to it....

It's funny, as you look at the camera from different angles it's a bit like

+1

Thank you for posting these, but for me this and other factors that are unique to the K-01 is even more interesting.

Well! with the K-5 sensor it has to have great image quality once things are in place, like proper metering, focus etc. But, a comparision with the K-5 could reveal whether the M-prime is any better or worse.

But, what is really interesting is AF speed, metering accuracy that are unique to this camera.

Thank you.

P.S: That picture next to K-5 on page 1 really shows how this is indeed smaller than what the specs might reveal....looks very cool...thank you for your efforts.

I admit I'm intrigued by certain aspects of the K-01. The focus peaking & video capabilities with audio level control & mic jack are especially appealing. Because of the missing VF, I wouldn't use it for a primary camera, but perhaps someday I'll pick one up mainly for video.

Pentax should release this version:

An all-black one actually looks quite nice, IMO.

If it uses the M6, it should be able to do 6 (to 7) frames per second continues, so without filling the buffer if the SD card and the write speed off it are fast enough.

I couldn't find the numbers of the M5 chip but i guess it's about 2 to 3 times as fast since when the K5 buffer is full the frame rate drops to 1.2fps
