Thanks, useful info!

Translates to about 20+ Mbit/s MP4 stream bitrate.

With the 2GB file size limit, the bitrate would have to drop to 11 Mbit/s to exploit the full 25 min. max. recording time.
2GB file size limit? It's 4 on the K-5.

Anyway, Pentaxian1 (Pentax USA) on YouTube says this about it:

The exposure can be controlled via aperture or shutter speed, choosing one or the other. The video file itself is limited to 25 min max recording time, which is hard coded independent of the memory card or battery power. However, it will stop recording if needed if the camera/battery get too hot.
They might make it start on a new file while recording to not have it stop when hitting the file size limit, like at least some DV cams do.

YES, Thats what I'm talking about !

I admit I'm intrigued by certain aspects of the K-01. The focus peaking & video capabilities with audio level control & mic jack are especially appealing. Because of the missing VF, I wouldn't use it for a primary camera, but perhaps someday I'll pick one up mainly for video.

Pentax should release this version:

An all-black one actually looks quite nice, IMO.
Yes !!!!

No half crap silver or white ... no vomit yellow.

All black is what I want, and I will wait till it's out, or not buy the K-01.

Why they did not offer it in all black is beyond me !

Thanks for all the images and info frank. It certainly makes me lean towards one even more. Still i want to see what the reviews of a v 1.0 firmware model are and see what weakness crop up (and what the focus peaking is like since i have a slew of Mf lenses)

There is an eyecup that accepts ground glass correction lenses that your optician makes. I think they were available for the M frame, too. I have two NIB if you want one (for a price).

What I'm not too sure of is how much an IQ difference is in 1Mbit/s. The Panasonic GH1 was 17Mbit/s. The GH2 is 24Mbit/s. There is a noticeable difference there. But the GH1 is still pretty good.
Are the codecs the same?
That the panasonic use constant bitrate while the K-01 is variable for example.

The K-01 has H.264/MPEG-4 AVC compression and the GH2 is AVCHD that ends up as an M2TS video file.

probably Pentax figured out that these are the least used shooting modes. Av, M and EV compensation are more than enough.
TAv is easily my most used mode. Mrs. ElJamoquio upgraded from a K-r to a K-5 largely because of TAv.

So they are different codec... how can you even compare them so directly then?

I still think it needs a viewfinder.
+1

Though I really like the yellow version for me this issue is a deal breaker. I just hate holding a camera like holding a baby with a dirty diaper. Not even an optional EVF? Why Pentax. why?

Both codecs are H.264/AVC ...
The difference will be in the containers and quality of implementation. Moreover, AVCHD is limited to 24 MBits/s, AVCHD2 to 28 MBit/s, MP4 isn't limited, Bluray being around 50MBit/s.

Because tacking on a viewfinder makes it a K-5. What in the world is the point of a mirrorless K-5? No size benefit. Why in the world are so many people so upset about the lack of a viewfinder? If you want a viewfinder get a K-5. If you want a smaller package get a K-01. Why the drama??

I hate shooting through the screen. It is both uncomfortable and less steady.

It means that K-01 is not for you. You can buy K-5, or new K-300 or K-3...
