What Price EVF?

One of the major criticisms of the K-01 is the lack of an EVF. How much is it worth to you? Here's the cost of some accessory EVFs:

Panasonic $239
Olympus $179 - $235
Sony $349

They Sony is a nice OLED, clearly pushing its price upward. Based on these figures, let's assume that a good quality accessory EVF will cost around $200.

Regarding built-in EVFs, it's harder to figure out how much they add to the price of the camera, but for discussion's sake, let's assume they add 60% of the cost of an accessory EVF. 70% of $200 is $140. Let's also assume that a built-in EVF makes the camera marginally larger than it currently is.

Based on these numbers, would an EVF (accessory or built-in) option on the K-01 change your thought on the camera?

I think more than USD200. Good resolution EVF could cost USD350. USD200 is so-so resolution.

I am happy with the $749 pre-order price for the K-01 without EVF . If Pentax comes out with a FF K-01 version with the new Sony 36mp sensor and 5mp OLED EVF for under $3K I will buy it. BTW a 5.2x 1080p ETC mode and 7.8x 720p ETC mode would be great with that 36mp FF sensor.

As my eyes age, a nice big screen is good as long as it's viewable in bright sunlight or i have some sort of option to attach a sunshade.

I would buy the k-01 without the EVF, but if there was an EVF model with additional feature content for 1000-1100 I may move to it instead. On a secondary camera with great video i don't think the EVF is a primary concern for me. On my primary camera I prefer an OVF, but would accept a top notch EVF with higher refresh rate than exists currently (needs to be at least 240hz IMO OLEd and higher res - a product that doesn't exist - yet )

somebody somewhere is is gonna release a hotshoe mount hdmi universal evf for d-slrs.... so between now and whenever the price drops enough to sell the k-02 with evf.. I'd say why worry, keep your eyes open.. as for the next camera model.. no more than $200.00 premium over the k-01...

I'd get one without EVF if needed.
I'd get one with EVF right away.

Don't mind paying if there is an EVF.
Last option for me is the external EVF.

you forgot the option where by the time you add the EVF you could have just bought a K-5!

I don't really mind there is no EVF. I have a K-5 with OVF. I'd probably buy the K-01 if I had more interest in videography or if I had more manual lenses to make use of the focus peaking...
But as it is I'll rather get some more lenses.

If Pentax/Ricoh makes an EVF available--and if the focus peaking actually works--I would buy one immediately.

Otherwise, I have no interest at all.

Forget the EVF. It's the lack of articulating LCD that makes it less than appealing.

The K-01 is a polarizing product, and it gives Pentax the opportunity to give so many of us what we really want...
Build a K-02 using the exact same sensor, but with a beautiful oversized 100 percent coverage EVF and NO rear screen. Just make the EVF so good we don't need one. Pour all of the money into making it so good we won't be able to peel our faces away from it. Wrap it in a rangefinder style body with a reduced depth because of not having a rear screen (Fuji X-Pro1 competitor at a much lower price anyone?). Get us back to taking pictures, not constantly showing them off and neurotically seeking approval for our artistic decisions.

K-01 for chimping snapshooters, K-02 for photographers.

I've been waiting for this moment for 4 years, since the first time I held a Pentax DSLR with live view, and thought, wouldn't it be great if it was like a classic ME body, everything in the viewfinder. And now we have the OM-d (Olympus EM5) to compete with. Yes, I know it would be a niche product, but what in the world is the Q? Fuji and Olympus are fighting hard for a small portion of the market, and Pentax has the glass, and now the resources, to make a truly iconic product, not just some designers show piece...

Am I the only one who would give up a rear lcd so readily for a smaller, lighter, more focused photographic instrument?

id give up the LCD for something like a K1000 with a sensor and SD slot. Full manual, mechanical, and awesome!

By the way, EVF is harmful for eyes.
