Heh, the DA 70 and the FA 43 get snubbed

The idea of the K-01 is growing on me. I think it might be small enough with a full set of DA limiteds, but it would still be a big change in my lens lineup to make that happen.

I do not think FA31 belongs there, and there is no zoom as well. I'd put in the DA70 and some DA zoom as well. DA*16-50 perhaps.

But I would not recommend something I never held, nobody knows how K-01 performs with either SDM or screw drive lenses.

35mm macro?

I would think the 35mm macro would be an ideal general lens for the k-01, at least I'm hoping it will be. My initial thought was to get that lens and then maybe add the 21mm for doing inside work. I'd probably top it off with the 55mm just because I think this camera will really work best with prime lenses, doesn't break my heart that there's no zoom listed.

I'd have recommended these: DA40XS, DA15, DA21, DA70, DA17-70, Tamron 17-50. A K-01 buyer is going to be budget consious and want smaller lenses (so including FA ltd's seems out of place).

Umm, it's still a $700 camera, hardly a budget item, or am I totally out of touch?

Recommendations, please - would it be silly of me to get an older SMC M 50mm f1.4 instead of this new 40mm XS as my first Pentax 'normal' prime? At $150 included in the kit is good value so they'd be similar in price. Will the 40mm be much better colour and sharpness etc over the older lens? The 50mm sample pics I've seen look pretty good to me.

Apart from liking the faster f1.4 I'm leaning towards the 50mm because even though the 40mm will obviously have the advantage of being AF, the 50mm has the advantage of an aperture ring so I can use it on my GXR as well via the K-M adapter. But then if they ever release a GXR K mount module, the 40mm would be the better choice... but then if they ever release a FF Pentax camera, the 50mm is the choice... dang, starting a new kit from scratch is difficult when second-guessing the future!

Get the 40XS, use it and sell it if you dont like it. You should easily get your money back (or more).

Fa43 must have. It's one of the best kit.

To me, the ultimate K-01 lens kit would be a full set of DA Limiteds. But a DA-L 35 and the upcoming DA 50 could be tossed in as well.

For zooms, I think all of these f/2.8 proposals are too big - at least for handheld use. I say go with the DA 18-55. Maybe the DA 18-135, but that's it. Even the DA 17-70 would be too long and heavy for handheld use, IMHO.

Having every Pentax lens on this page would sort of defeat the purpose, but I agree- a zoom might be in order. The Tamron 17-50mm would definitely be worth recommending...

BTW, the FA31mm looks gorgeous on the K-01. See shots of it in the Singapore users thread!

Getting the 40mm for 150$ is an opportunity that should not be missed. But with the focus peaking and SR the K-01 will be ideal base for older lenses, such as the M series. I very much recommend looking for M20/4 and M28/3,5. Getting a 50mm is another good decision to be done.

Yup, like that B&H page.

Missing the FA 43mm, the 35mm DA L, and I really think the 10-17mm FE would be a perfect fit for the K-01.

Like to see a picture of the K-01 coupled with the Fish eye.
