Yes, as discussed, Nikon and Voigtlander made such lenses, all beneath 11mm, as specialty lenses. We're talking about a mass-market maker selling mass market lenses to mass market consumers.

I cannot imagine Pentax releasing lenses that could damage a K-5 mirror - the K-5 is the current top-of-line dSLR - with just a "Be Careful" warning stuck somewhere in the instructions. All they'll neesd to do is extend one of the ears on the lens flange and make the mirrorless body mount correspond. Traditional K-mount lenses would fit mirrored bodies, but new lenses wouldn't fit mirrored bodies.
Just asked this in another thread too, I was thinking the same thing, but even if you extend a flange so that the new XS lens won't mount on old bodies, won't it be too late once the lens mount gets there? I would think you would already bang the mirror by that point. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you mean, "Traditional K-mount lenses would fit both mirrored and mirrorless bodies..."

Well that certainly would be the limit the rear element could extend into the body. Another thing to ponder.

One thing is clear - Pentax will soon be introducing a new style of rear lens cap!
With DO NOT USE ON D-SLR's damage to mirror risk" stamped right on them.

Of course the thing is Pentax has always been backward compatible ie old lenses fit on new bodies
you can't mount your k lenses on an m42 body
your DA lenses (with some exceptions) won't work or are crippled on almost all film bodies
so now you have a body that takes all the old glass and works with all of it, but there is a new lens that doesn't work with the older body design (read SLR)

Not a massive issue for most who will own this camera, and requires some common sense from the rest of us (Pentax is DOOMED to a class action lawsuit then )

another thing that's clear is that making two versions of a lens (for mirror and mirrorless) with the same mount and near same formula is a lot cheaper than making an entirely new lens and mount.

reusing old formulas with minor changes is tradition
