K-01 AF speed

I was wondering how fast and accurate can K-01 autofocus, and found two videos on Youtube:

Well, the video shows only random AF point (probably in AUTO mode), what I would like to see is how to choose a center AF point and how fast it will be then.
From what I can see, it works fast enough for my needs. I would even say that it is faster than my K10D
Can't wait to see some serious reviews.

Marko

It's enough for me too.

I think it will be better in some ways and not as good in others. Probably tracking will be nonexistant. However, on the other side, it will definitely take care of some the focusing problems that people have complained of with really fast lenses like the DA *55 (read: no need for auto focus micro adjustment).

It is faster than K5 in LV mode (CDAF), but certainly not as fast as K5 when focused through the viewfinder.

Can't remember how fast/slow K10's AF is, it's been way too long since last time I had it...

Note, the K-01 we tested are a prototype with firmware v.033, not the final product yet.

That second video with the 77mm limited.. I dunno if the 77mm limited is fast at focusing or not, but gosh that K-01 seems to focus quicker than my k-x......

In my experience, the FA77 is a very slow focusing lens. I think these videos bode very well for the AF performance of the K-01 and future CDAF Pentax cameras.

It's slowlest lens Pentax ever made.

This bodes well. One of the things I was waiting to hear about was the AF speed and accuracy. This gives me hope. I'll still need to hold it in my hands to make the final decision. I hope the K-01s start showing up in local camera stores. I feel a bit guilty ordering from a store when I am not pretty certain that I want the item.

I was trying to remain polite :-)

But I agree, it's certainly the slowest focusing lens I own.

Then it seems damn quick.. Between my 35mm F2.4 and my Tammy 70-200 (ignoring the Sigma 17-70 because that's a weird focusing freak), I don't think I've hit focus that quickly and decisively on my k-x. I'll have to go do some tests at home...

I wonder why that is, considering it's so bright. Does it have a really long focus throw? I've never had the pleasure or holding one. I am considering getting the DA70 to complete a light trio of small primes, but my desire for the 77 holds me back. Every lens purchase is a compromise in some way.

Not bad for K-01. Works well for CDAF with FA77

Hard to say if that's fast enough to capture a walking person with any degree of sharpness. The authors of these video only focused on fixed targets.

Couldn't watch the video, but that is a problem I had with the NEX 5N that I borrowed (possibly user error to some extent.). If the AF can't keep up with my daughter, then I can't use it. I am considering selling off the majority of my manual kit, because I'm not fast enough without setting the hyperfocal or zone focus/prefocus.

I also use my camera mostly for shooting images of my children, and they are always in action...almost, except when sleeping
But, maybe K-01 could keep with them, it seems that it locks focus pretty quickly, that is what I need. Tracking is a SF for me and my K10D
Ok, one theoretical question: Does contrast AF depends on the quality of the sensor and its dynamic range? I think it should. Also, if you pair it with good lens that lets a lot of good light to detect fine contrast, maybe K-01 could surprise with its AF capabilities.
