K-01 Unboxing - My Version ...

I'm sure I wasn't the first one who got the coolest camera in town, but I'm still very happy to get hold on mine today

Since I've had black, silver or even white color cameras before, this time I went for a yellow one, and I feel it's the best looking K-01 among all three color options. Here are some photos I took when I opened up the box:

The box looks really nice, much better looking than all boxes for previous Pentax dSLR cameras:

Not surprising, the local warranty card was on top of the other content inside the box:

Everything is well organized and packed as all other Pentax dSLR cameras:

These are all we (K5 owners of course) wanted, aren't they?

Finally got to the most exciting part, the camera looks much better than I thought:

I wish I got time to setup a light box to take some better photos, but for now these will do:

The strap was also designed by Mark Newson, of course it'd look different from all the other straps:

Since I've already played the camera (prototype) before, I'm more interested in how the new lens perform on a film camera. It doesn't look bad when mounted on the most beautiful Pentax film camera:

As expected, there is no vignetting or dark corners or whatsoever in the viewfinder w/ this new pancake lens mounted.

The first thing I tested w/ the new camera is the Focus Peaking feature. Never used thied this thing before, seems pretty useful. Those who love to use manual lenses would love this feature.

Can't wait to have mine, i ordered the black version, yellow is too flashy in the forest

Frank. Thanks for the initial write up. I'm sure a lot of guys have been waiting eagerly for this.

I only got the 40XS.

Just to add to the information on the peaking function.
Its like the Ricoh one.
For those who are totally unfamiliar with this feature, it functions sort of like a "fresnel lens" on a optical focusing screen.
Pretty nice. I could walk around with the lens pre-focused and observe what 'peaks' on the screen (ie. in focus).

The 40mm XS works and fits on regular bodies? I thought it extended into the body and wouldn't work on film and regular DSLRs?

Aha, I like that strap. Nice that you go yours, please beat Adam to the punch with a review! Also, it was a little tricky understanding the focus peaking from that picture since ive never seen the gxr peaking feature.

Where did you get that from? From Frank's mention that there's no visible vignetting in the SLR viewfinder? Can we really say yet how it performs on film or FF?

EDIT: But the real question is whether one can play Angry Birds with the rear display!?
