K-01 Video Sample (Full HD 30fps)

Hi All,

I have to say I'm really a very lousy w/ video stuff, never really liked taking videos. But here I'd like to share one anyway. It's taken in full HD at 30fps, aperture priority, no editing or whatsoever. Make sure you download and look at the original one (hope the download link works better than MSN SkyDrive) instead of watching the video clips on 4shared:

IMGP0652.MOV - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

I'll try to take some more over the coming weekend.

Hi Frank,

I uploaded your video to youtube and it is unlisted so only people with the direct link could see it since there is no quick way to see it in your link without signing up. Your video looks at least as equal to the K-5 1080p videos I have seen and and much better than my K-7 HD videos and at half the bitrate of M-JPEG. I also uploaded it to Vimeo with password protection so only people with the password could view and download the native 1080p30 file for the next week. The password is "pentax".

Joe

The bitrate looks to be around 24mbits/sec.

Pentax K-01 1080p30 test video - YouTube

Thanks Joe for the effort. I used to have a video on vimeo, it's from K-7 I think. But never used video after the very first try, that's already 2 to 3 years ago...

Video looks great. I have K-7, and I'm really looking forward for a great video capabilitys...I need to shoot my puppet shows... How long can one take video? With K-7 sensor heat up is problem also. Sorry, if this is stupid question, but I matters to me.

I don't know how long the camera can keep working w/ videos, will test out tomorrow (and see if it can fill a 4GB card w/ a single video w/o stopping).

Thank you very much Frank for all your efforts! Would be interesting to see how fast the AF really is if it comes to recording videos.

Enjoy your new toy

Okay. I m not a video person either but with the video quality frank posted, it exceed my expectations. It is certainly better than my k-7 and k-x.

I cannot wait for more videos frank Try to shoot some distant things, like the city, or a forest, this way we can see better how good the sharpening and details are. Also make some video tests with the af during movie, we are very curios to see how you can focus in the video from close up to distance and so on with a lens.

The quality and details from what I've seen is good, but not spectacular. Take a look at the Panasonic GH2, hacked or not hacked (by hacked they changed the bit rate like 150mb), the video quality is breathtaking. I hope the K-01 will have the same potential especially if it's possible to hack the firmware and increase the bit rate.

Good Day Frank!

Thank you for sharing your photos and full HD video!
Can I request from you? Can you take at least 5 second footage using 720p @ 60fps and share it with us?
I'm planning to get a K-01 for my videography. I really like the concept of this new K-01.
Thank you in advance!

I also appreciate the effort from you Frank!

One thing I am curious about, the K-01 has the ability to extract a Jpeg from a single frame of video.

Can you perform that function from one of your videos and post the picture or give us your perspective on the resulting picture?

Thanks!
