K-01 Firmware update wishes!

Well now that a few people already have the camera (and mine not yet arrived) we mide as wel start to complain about it. So what is missing in it that can be fixed with a firmware update.

Let's start with a wish (or is it already in it?):

when reviewing pictures they have to turn on the screen when tilting the camera.

I read it doesn't do Hi-speed continious shooting with 6 fps, but I guess that is just a firmware fix as was with K-5 at the start. So I expect at least one fix for this. I wonder how fast it can be, with writingspeed to the card and processing, since that will determ the dept of the burst as well.

Are you comparing the focus speed on the K7 using live view? If not, the phase detect AF on the K7 will be faster than the CDAF on the K-01, especially for lenses that aren't optimized for the CDAF. Plus, macro lenses are slow to AF anyway.

At least for me Macro focusing is slow even when it is manual.

i was comparing to PDAF on the K7, yup i realised that as well, its my first time at mirrorless so pardon my noobness

but in any case i can just do manual focussing. the focus peaking works great!

- up to 14x magnification during lv
- optional 'digital zoom' during video (cropping instead of scaling)
- higher fps at reduced size (720p@ 60fps is excellent, but upt to 240fps @ VGA could be quite nice)
- enable ir-remote in 'bulb'-mode
- expand 'M' to 'bulb' ; instead of limiting t to 30sec gimme some selectable longer exposuretimes like 60sec, 120sec 240sec a.s.o.)
- custom AE-bracketing (is it soooo difficult, to take 5, 9 or 15 frames instead of 3?)
- focus-bracketing
- allow me to enter celestial and terrestial coordinates to use it as astrotracer (could be used to calibrate gauge + compass @ k-5, too, instead of swirling it around and hoping this time it will be accurate enough to avoid startrails[it almost never was..])

If I ever did get one, my biggest complaint would be the lack of faux mirror noise with adjustable sound level.

I wonder if it's possible (or could become possible) to use the mic-jack to attach a wired remote. Most Panas can do this.

You know Vitaliy_Kiselev from Topics List - Personal View Talks has reverse engineered the firmware from panasonic ? And did a lot of changes that user wanted. He is also a Pentax fan and from what I understand he said the K-01 must be hack-able. Get to that formul and show more intereset so he knows we want somethng changed with the firmware.

I for one I'm really curios about increasing the bitrate of the movies. 20-24 is too slow, I think 100Mb can make wonders with the video.

It certainly can do wonders to your SDXC-card.

The guys with Panasonic gh2 don't mind having crystal clear HD movie that beats any other DSLR including canons or nikon and even beats or equals the professional HD camcorders with the expense of less space on the sd card. Take a look on youtube for 1080p footage from hacked gh2, is mind blowing, very very sharp movie with extraordinary detail.
