K-01 First Shot in Peek Mode with A50 1.4

Here is my first shot from my beautiful new K-01. Shot in Peek Mode.

I haven't seen that much talk about this feature on the site but it's all I could think of when waiting for the camera. Without a viewfinder, this feature is essential.

The GOOD news is that it works!!!! Just as I would have hoped. The edges of the area of the image that is in focus "light" up so you know where you are.

I think I'm going to weld my A50 1.4 to the camera and be done with it. They feel like they were made for each other. Well maybe I'll have to share time on the K-01 body with my DA35 2.8 Limited. It looks just as cool.

Here is my bonsai rigged to train a branch. Using focus Peeking catching this just right was a snap. I have to admit, I stopped down to f4 so the focus plane would be thicker than a piece of paper.

I'll post separately on the feel of the camera.

I just hope the new DLSRs include the feature as well. It'd be particularly handy in low light, where the Live View is difficult to see.

Great shot... of course the FF guys will claim you can't take a shot like that with an APS-c camera.

I've been casually thumbing through the adobe User Manual. I think I read you use the e-dial like in Playback on a dSLR.

Here's how it works.

You enable "AF Autozoom" in the Camera 1 menu.

Now, when you prefocus the camera, if you hold the shutter half pressed for about a second the camera automatically zooms in 2X, 4X or 6X to the center of your frame for fine focus. With the QuickShift focus on my DA35 Limited it works like a dream.

You choose the level of focus mag with the control wheel. The camera remembers which mag you set so you only have to do this once or if you want to change the mag.

Really does work great.

Thanks for the info! Can you confirm that the focus peak function works besides the centre point? If so then I think the K-01 will be a lot more attractive to me because it makes working with MF lens a lot easier

Thanks for posting that shot, joelovotti. You're right, I have been thinking a lot about focus peaking with the K-01.

I feel like Little Orphan Annie. Tomorrow! Tomorrow! My K-01 is due Monday, and I can't wait to use it with a bunch of lenses, including the 50/1.4.

The Peek focus works throughout the frame. Everything that is in focus has a white halo around it. If you are taking a photo of a chess set and the pawns are in focus then each and every pawn has its own halo.

It is exactly what you would want it to be
