K-01 Video Test

Even though it rained all morning I had a break during lunch where I could test out the video on the K-01. So far it looks pretty freakin good. I love the fact that you can control shutter speed, iso, and aperture. That is one thing I didn't like about the K7 and K5. I love the fact that you don't have to buy an adapter to use your K-mount lenses on the K-01. I have a few four thirds lenses and when I put them on the GH-1 with the adapter it just defeats the purpose of having a small camera. So here are a few shots. First part is 1080p 30fps and the last part is 720p 60fps conformed to 30fps to get that slow motion effect. Mind you this was during my lunch break so it's not anything pretty and all the settings as far as color profile and stuff were left to factory settings. Lenses used were Pentax 43mm F1.9 and Pentax 12-24mm F4.

Have a great weekend!

I shall refer to the title of "quick and dirty" to be my escape clause!

But yeah, the middle bit where the sky was overblown was pretty harsh to see - the bokeh bits with the water droplets, and various zoom effects/pan effects were just great to watch. The colors were quite nice, I'd love to see a movie shot with this from the FA 31 limited!

Very cool video. The video capabilities of the K-01 on the right hands can produce nice things

Great video. Can you comment about detail and compression artifacts on the original source video? How does it look? Is M-JPEG still an option, or is it only the new codec?

M-JPEG is not available but I prefer h.264 since you don't need a fast memory card and it takes up much less space . I am using a 32GB Sandisk Ultra Class 4 15mb/sec SDHC card in my K-01 without problems.

Original Poster
Edward Conde: It was done on tripod and a homemade pvc dolly. No handheld. Thanks!

Jbinpg: The song is not Sigur Ross it is a song from Killer Tracks

Sjwaldron: The artifacts are due to the Youtube compression. It actually uploaded as 720p quality. So I guess Youtube compressed it because I edited it in 1080p timeline. I will try and do some more testing and upload a full quality clip. The original does not show the artifacting like the Youtube video does.

Does any one know what it the video bitrate of the K-01?

You may want to try uploading it to Vimeo instead. They don't compress nearly as much, and I believe that someone has already started a Pentax K-01 group for people who want to post their videos. https://vimeo.com/groups/pentaxk01

Very nice; you obviously shoot video on a regular basis? I have yet to even try video on my K-5... :-(
