I put the Sigma 70-300 macro on the K-01 . I thought " Nice light compact telephoto, shouldn't be too bad." It was an interesting experience, it can be a real chore getting this camera to focus in low light and a slow lens. The AF frequently went right by the bird and focused on the background leaving the bird a faint blurry spot in front of my wood pile. That said, once it achieved focus it did a great job. I think I might try it with an F4 lens to see if it improves the capture rate..

IN any case, I don't have any complaints with the pictures. The one's I did get may have had a slightly higher keeper rate than what I'm used to with a K-5, even if I didn't get as many as I'm used to. The fast wide angle lenses are definitely the way to go with this camera.

Let's not pretend here.

The K-01's AF is good for some situations and not for others. I think at this stage it might be better to rely on manual focussing in a lot of instances. I'm wondering if it's even good enough to keep focus of an aircraft taxiing slowly past. There's only one way to find out!

I'll guess that if it's a contrasty target (say, a Southwest 'Shamu' ), good light, and bright lens (but not a Tammy 70-200/2.8), then yes. Two out of three, probably. One out of three, doubtful. Silver plane, hazy conditions, slow lens, don't bother and just switch to MF.

A couple more from today. First one was all blown out but I was able to salvage some of it and play around with it a bit.

Now how many times have I seen a shot like that , with the author claiming "Shots like this are why you have to have a full frame?" Way too many.

Super Takumar 17mm f/4 Fish-Eye

I got a chance go use CS6 to work with this photo (I only have PS Elements 8) and wow, the things you can do in there are endless! So yes, now instead of lusting for more lenses, I'm lusting for a Photoshop upgrade.
