A 'Painting with Light' composite.

The technique is simple.

Totally dark site.

Camera on a tripod, B Mode, low ISO and a smallish Aperture (around f11).

Open shutter, paint light onto the subject with a torch (flashlight), close shutter. Take a few shots paint light into different areas and combine them in Photoshop, don't try to do it in one shot, Screen blend mode makes anything black transparent.

Chris, that's a very different, and unique-looking photo; I like it.

Thanks for sharing the technique; I'll have to try it.

Mike

Thanks for all the positive comments, if you want to see what can be achieved by this technique watch this video

It's quite long at just under 7 minutes, but worth it.

My new toy (Tamron 90 2.8) arrived a few days ago and I snapped some quick photos.
These were two that I shot and am considering getting them printed on canvas for a friend who loves music.
Only problem was that I didn't notice I was shooting at 5MP resolution. Arrg, it's always something...

Very nice and classy! Too bad about the whole 5MP mess-up.

oh man... I actually entered a photo contest with a photo I accidentally took at 2mp res. I was so stoked on the sunset lighting and that I had found exactly the photo I was looking for that I forgot to check! I ended up winning 2nd anyway oh well.
here's a couple that I played around with the in-camera processing stuff.
and one with the 55-300, evidence of spring. (well, as john muir said, CA only has two seasons- spring and summer.)

*i kind of love the multi-exposure feature on the k01
