Gorgeous, and a nice testament to the camera's ability, but isn't that a speck of sensor dust in the clouds in the center-top of the frame?
Thanks and yes you're right, I missed this one

Tried my hand at snowflake macros for the first time last night. I've read that some people set up a special rig and move snowflakes onto it, but I just wanted to shoot the snow "in situ", as it fell down. It was about -12C, with no wind and large flakes gently falling down at the end of a major snow storm - ideal! So I strapped on the Tamron 90mm, the Raynox 250, 50mm of extension tubes, and my homemade telescoping Pringles flash diffuser, and headed out. I just looked for interesting formations, and shot everything handheld. Oh, and I also borrowed a lamp from the living room so I could focus.

This combo give 2.6:1 macro, and I added some cropping in post (varies, but not a lot). Though the shots were a bit under exposed and required some post, I'm pretty pleased with the results!

Awesome work mate! What's their size in real life ?

Thank you! Given that the image on the un-cropped originals is about 9mm across, I'd estimate the larger flakes visible in these pics to be very roughly 3mm across, maybe a bit more. I don't know much about snowflakes, but I imagine these were pretty large specimens... Oh, and while typing this I just found a typological guide, where for the type of flakes that are in the first pic I posted above - stellar dendrites - they state that "[t]hese are fairly large crystals, typically 2-4 mm in diameter" - so that would be commensurate with my photos.

Quite an interesting shot! I rather like it! Not too bad for ISO 6400.
