40mm xs v 40mm ltd on K-01

I'm thinking of returning the k-01 with the 40mm xs and purchasing body only along with 40mm ltd and wonder if this is a good idea. Don't know if the 40mm ltd will function the same as the xs model -- all in all I prefer the look of the 40mm ltd and the quick shift feature.

Thanks for the input.

I have both and image quality is identical between the two as far as I'm concerned. I see the MSRP on the 40XS is $250 when it becomes available, while the 40Ltd is $500 (though much cheaper online). Still, that makes the 40XS a bargain in my book.

My only concern (unfounded so far, but I haven't tested much) is the lack of hood on the XS. Also, as you know, the XS doesn't have quick shift. I figure in real-world prices, you'll pay $150 premium for those features, so only you can decide if it's worth it for you.

Also, since the XS isn't available yet (AFAIK) and it seems to be a desired lens, you'll probably do better selling the lens yourself and you'll net less than the body-only price.

Thank you for the input. Online price for the 40Ltd currently is $339 and, of course, you get the xs at $150 with camera -- so I guess quick-shift and hood aren't worth the extra money and trouble returning it. Except for the AF sometimes and no VF, I'm liking it better than I thought. Although with my older eyes, VF is close to a deal breaker. Anyway -- thank you -- I'll stick with what I've got. Regards.

The 40mm XS will be available for purchase at B&H on March 25th, so that's not so far away.

Most user testing comparisons between the 40mm XS and the 40mm LTD have concluded that they are too similar to tell apart by pictures.

I do wonder how the working of the xs is without hood on a sunny day.

It's the same lens optically. Do keep in mind that fashion comes at a cost, though: the XS lens has no quick-shift.

Also, I would buy it in the K-01 kit and then sell the camera: it'll save you $100!

You also get a metal lens for that price instead of plastic, that's where most of that money goes too.

Eh, a few dollars. Most of the money is for the Limited cachet.
