I used to own a K20D with the DA 40 and DA 15. Sold those a few years ago when I decided I had too much equipment and wanted to downsize (along with a Rolleiflex 2.8 GX that was a great camera, but which I just wasn't using enough.)
So fast forward and I bought a Q with the 8.5 mm kit for a carry around all the time camera, and joined this forum. (And I do carry it around all the time - it's in the daypack I take to work and back every day.) Next thing you know, Adam has been working with Adorama and B&H and there are all these great Black Friday deals. When the K-01 hit $316 I wound up ordering a white one from Adorama (after much mental wavering.) Then the question was what lens(es) to get. Got the DA 40 again, as that's a great lens, but decided to get the DA 21 instead of getting the DA 15 again. Why? My only other camera is a Leica 8.2 with a 28mm 2.8 lens, which is the equivalent of a 37mm on 35mm. I really like that lens; I find that focal length to personally be much more useful for street and general photography than the DA 15 was. The K-01 and the DA 21mm are supposed to arrive tomorrow (the 40mm arrived on Saturday.) So it'll be interesting to see how I like the DA 21 and more particularly the K-01.
So much for downsizing....

Yep, that $316 deal is what caught me too and brought me back to Pentax. The DXOMark scores are outstanding (as are all recent Pentax DSLRs). The K-01 is an outstanding value if you can live without a viewfinder.

My new/current setup for the K-01 is also the DA 21, DA 40XS, and the DA 70. I also have a 16mm SIgma f2.8 manual lens for when I want to go even wider. I'm thinking about also picking up a used telephoto. Probably something in the 100-300 range just to have all my bases covered. So far I'm impressed with all the lenses even the manual Sigma but I think the DA 70 is my overall favorite so far. Looking to do some portraits with that one in the very near future.

I would like to eventually pick up the DA 15 as well. I also hear great things about the FA 31 Limited.

DA21 and DA40. So small. So cool. Add a DA70 and boom! perfect three lens kit for the K-01.
Note to self; buy a DA70....
I used that collection as a waistpack kit for the K-x. Take the hood off the DA70, and it carries like the other two pancakes.

Wait, I thought there wasn't going to be a rear-protruding zoom for the K-01. I thought that was just a rumor that has been denied by Pentax itself?

Yeah, those comments were posted in April, when there was a chance. In late September, a Pentax rep said that it wasn't on any lens roadmap he had seen, which pretty much means it is dead - for now.

It was dead because the K-01 was a flop regarding sales.
Now with the new prices I guess there are far more K-01 users than just 3 months ago, so maybe they'll reconsider it.

Also the Pentax rep said they hadn't received many demands for this, so we just have to make a big petition and send it to them

Kind of depends on whether the Black Friday price is just a fire sale to clear space in the warehouse. If they reconsider the XS zoom, I think it would be as a kit lens for a successor camera, maybe in 2014. I won't say "K-02", because by then, the name scheme will have changed again, and it will be the "K2014hD Mk.I". Uh, "Super".

We use the da limited 21-da35 2.4-fa 50 1.7 route, with the 40xs as a one lens solution at a party. Works like a charm and they all AF lightning fast.

I would love to buy some more small primes, if they weren't so damn expensive. As for the internal zoom, a nice slim 18-75 would be awesome. I'd settle for 28-75, even. (Hell, I'd take 18-50 if it's small, but I would like just a bit more reach to tell the truth)
