Awesome Camera Concept

I was musing in these pages a while back about what a full-frame K-02 might look like. I mentioned basing it on the Mamiya 7 with a folding screen and a viewfinder in the top corner.

Lo and behold: check it out.

Uncanny. Some very nice touches and details in his renderings.

It appears very interesting. The concepts in terms of a design are new and refreshing. The execution of the rendering is exceptional. That said, and I do like it - I have to wonder just how realizable this design concept would be - especially in terms of packaging and elements of technology.

wow this is a need thing. Making it K-mount and even if it would mean that only SDM AF would be supported.

This is a concept, easy to dream all that stuff because they have no constraint for what goinside

Exactly. Still, it's fun to speculate and get interesting ideas out there. There's no reason camera design couldn't go in a direction like this. I think there'd be a ready market among enthusiasts.

Count me in. I love the whole thing, and would probably end up buying all three sensor modules. A brilliant marketing scheme.

Indeed!

Very cool design and a few great ideas.

So much better than Newson came up with for the K-01 (AFAIC).

why is a design concept rendering being compared to a real world product based on existing internal technology and engineering restraints? I get that most people don't like the K-01's external design, but to compare like this is a bit unfair.

We've seen other kewl concept cameras, just as we've seen concept cars. If they're designed by indy groups, they don't get built. If they're designed by corporate behemoths, they might get built, but only after they've been focus-grouped and design-reviewed and diluted and twisted a bit. I recall a certain software visionary whose 1959 insight finally became a product in 1985. He said that there's a great difference between a clear vision and a straight path. These concepts are beautiful visions. Bringing them to reality is a non-trivial endeavor.
