Pentax K-01 : Problem in video mode with manual lenses

Hi Guys, I have the same problem as minilink. Just boutht SMC Pentax K 50 lens. Its really great

, but i can not make movies with it because I'm unable to set the manual settings. Even when I use M on the top whell, and push red button , camera uses automatic settings.

"M" mode has sense for still shots. Using the record (Red) button forces Program mode for video.
Select manual mode for video in menu, then use the shutter release button to fire up videoshoting.

Thanks, of course I was doing it earlier, but it doesn't help with analog lens.

I'd have to agree with the original poster here. I tried an M42 mount lens with an adapter and it worked as he described. Changing the shutter speed doesn't change the overall exposure like it does with lenses that communicate with the body.

Thanks Sjwaldron for confirming that you have the same problem. I was wondering if that was only a problem on my camera.

I also have heavy noise sound while filming in a calm area (and even in a noisy area, I can still hear the noise).
I created another thread concerning that problem.

what shutter speeds are you guys using?
if your trying to go faster than 60 frames per second, it should not work, you'll need to buy nd or vari nd filters....
as for audio is your SR on? you'll pick up tht noise withthe internal mc as wellas your AF and any handholding noise from you... also wind is easy to pick up... this is why pros use separate audio recording.... or off camera mics.

I've not use the k-01, but I am thinking if you use a lens that can communicate with the camera, the camera may overide any operator errors, but it cannot with an M lens.... hence setting too fast a shutter speed with a da lens the camera may adjust the iso (gain) or aperture to match the fastest shutter speed available... regardless of what you set it for...

D0n it's not the question of shutter speed. The camera just behaves as in Tv mode, even it you choose different.

Could this problem be caused by non-conductive base of the manual lens? It the base does not short certain pins on the camera mount, some functionality might be lost (like stop-down metering on K-x, link).

It is an odd situation. Shooting video in manual mode, I tested with a FA-35 f/2 lens in A and manual aperture mode. I also shot an m50m f/1.4. In a low light situation using a fan, it appears that the m50 simply defaulted to around 1/60th for shutter speed no matter where I set the actual shutter speed. The 35mm set the camera shutter speed at whatever setting I desired (1/250th, 1/125th, 1/30th) whether the lens was set in A mode or even when setting the aperture manually. I came to my conclusions based on the blur of the fan blade - so the test is not a verified result.

This doesn't particularly bother me as my preferred shutter speed for video does happen to be 1/60th. However, in low light, static shooting situations I would think 1/30th would be preferable - and not available with the M and K lenses. I can't fathom why a manual lens without electronic communication would require the setting of a default shutter speed for video.

I just tried and have the same behaviour with manual lens.
But jogiba has said it was as wanted for him... I don't know how... maybe a custom parameter in menu ?

Well lets see. Unfortunately using a built in mic is about the same as using the built in color correcting fill flash. To get impressive results; one really has to use the hotshoe for flash; and use some type of external mic for sound in video. I've seen this exact issue with most any video camera - even the true professional ones - some costing well in excess of 50k.

Now accurately capturing sound is another issue all together - and even under the best of circumstances is extremely difficult to do. Which is why professional video camera companies like; JVC, Sony, Canon, even RedOne - all offer a type of mixing solution. And with that - comes the need for a whole new set of computer hardware and software - quite costly

The thing is that using an external mic for the K-01 doesn't help. There is this constant noise whatever you do (I've tested my external mic).
I should have posted the test I made between a K-01 and a T3i from a friend in the same room and same conditions.
