Got the k-01 that I plan on using for video capture at conventions and other noisy crowded events. Any good recommendations on external mics?
What are you all using and why?

The one in the link above is RODE Stereo Video Mic, now superseded.

For your purpose a Shotgun Mic may be more suitable, i.e. RODE VideoMic

I'm thinking about something better than my very marginal Nady stereo mic. For the price, and based on the reviews, it looks like the Azden SMX-10 is very good. Any cheaper, and I think the rather good internal mics will do better than a lot of the low-end units. I'm not ready to spring for the Rode if my level of use remains occasional.

Edit: Another option would be two mono mics with an Y adapter. The Azden SGM-X has a $10 rebate this month, and looks like a near-pro quality unit (at a considerably higher price). I don't know if you should go the Y adapter route; one concern is that your voltage is 1.5x2= 3v - but with total current for 2 mics reaching only 1.0 mA I can't imagine that it would be a problem.

If anyone has a good sense of how well this arrangement would work, I'd appreciate the feedback.
