New purpose for the K-01? -revive dead SDM??

A guy on the local forums seem to have found that his K-01 operated in screw drive mode when his SDM fail to operate.
problem with my DA*50-135?

Perhaps those of you who have a 'dead' SDM lens can try it.

Note : TS later found that one of the pins on his lens was misaligned and SDM operation returned once the pin was moved back.
(probably also worth a try for those experiencing SDM woes)

I bet the focus peaking would help. If I were to start my collection over, I might get the full set of Samyangs and the K-01. The slow FPS in RAW is a bit of an issue though.

I think I read about something similar before. I'm not sure its a good idea to do that, because it might cause even more damage to the lens, but then again, if its already broken and out of warranty..

Wow, so I just tried this and it worked.

I'd purchased a 17-70 f/4 a few months ago, and was really happy with it until I dropped it from about 12" off the ground. A small drop, but it was enough that I needed to send the lens in for repairs. The lens came back, and was in perfect shape... for a few months, at which point the SDM just quit. I was fed up enough with the lens that I gave up on it, having paid enough to send it in for repairs the first time, I shelved it. I even took the lens apart manually and tried fiddling with the SDM motor myself, but no luck.

I read this post yesterday, and just tried putting it on my K-01... and it worked! I don't know if my K100D Super just wasn't cutting it anymore or what, but the new camera seems to have sparked the lens back to life. I'm still not sold on Pentax's QA - and the SDM lenses tend to be more trouble than they're worth, but I'm very happy to have my 17-70 back and working.

What an interesting story - I wonder what made it come back to life on the K-01.. and maybe that will be true for the k-30!
