LCD dimming when focusing

First I wanted to find out if none else with the pentax k-01 is having this same issue (or at least I think it's an issue). When I engage the autofocus by pressing the trigger half-way, the LCD display dims while the camera focuses. Then it brightens up when the picture is taken. While I don't think this is affecting the auto focus, it affects my ability to compose a shot when in low light conditions. Can someone else check their camera and tell me if it is something all the k-01s are doing? I've looked all over and cannot find any setting that would turn this off.

I think it happens to all contrast-detect cameras. Nikon D5000s and a Sony P&S also do this.

Any lens I've attached does this. Although I have not tried any manual focus lenses.

Interesting. That doesn't make sense to me, at least as a reason for it to do this. Seems that the contrast would be better at a higher light setting, especially in low light.

So you've confirmed this on a k-01 that it does the same thing?
