To those with K01's

So I keep looking at them, like a parent does a child hovering around a swimming pool, I can't seem to take my eye of it. I don't really know why.

I don't need one. This is all want, and now I see they at $600 odd bucks on the US site, well ok plus $20 delivery down here to Oz,

I don't think I'll be able to talk my way out of it, so lets just assume I'm already sold..

Now honestly. Do you lads use anything other then the super thin 40xs often enough? Naturally I have a bunch of M42 and K lens and I keep thinking sure sure I'll use them sure sure sure. I just cant help but think they would look really naff on the crazy space age brick looking body

And that, any other lens is going to put it closer in size to the K10d its probably going to end up replacing.. So hmmm a marginally smaller K10 with shiny buttons and a proper nice sensor? hmmm I don't know if I care that much for the aforementioned upgrades

Getting back to wants however . I can get one locally (body only) for about $550 it seems. No that's a silly question of course I'd spend the extra coin and get one with a lens.

Do the pentax US site ship overseas?

Also. I kinda feel I just need to get a yellow one. The Black one, well, it's just a bit to trad really. . (errr cant believe I just said that) But if its going to be fun, it dam well should be fun yeah?

Anyone happy with a white one? :P How has the colour held out, (both yellow and white?)

Your's in obsession.

Daniel

One could enter into a contact and have someone purchase the camera for them and then ship all of it just about anywhere

Naughty naughty ... you didn't read the Price Watch thread :-)

K-01 (yellow no less) with 18-55 lens : A$399 + $16 shipping
Pentax K-01 Yellow w/ 18-55mm Lens

I tested it just now, apparently still available. Good luck.

That does suck. Wow the body only is 549, so the XS is just $50 more? interesting...

I got mine from Amazon a week ago. <gloats> I justified it as getting a nice 40mm pancake lens for US$50 with a really expensive rear lens cap.

The basic black body does look nice with old M glass:

But even better with a Carl Zeiss Jena 'Zebra'

I bought mine for a great price in France...
Now, about the lenses.. I tend to keep primes on mine, but I often use the DA 35mm f2.4 and the Pentax M 50mm f1.7. Focus peaking makes even manual focus pretty easy (to me it seems easier than on my K-r's OVF or live view), so you might find a good use for old lenses. The only drawback I can think of is that a big all-metal lens might offset the balance of the camera a little, but nothing dramatic.
Its a fun camera to use and the IQ is pretty great

Get the one with the 40xs (; that's one of the reason I'm getting a k01, and the more I look at it, the more I'm liking how it looks. not like before where I just hate how it was styled. I guess it's an acquired taste hehe

This is how I justified mine

Right now the K01 + 40xs are being sold for $590. 40xs alone is almost $220+, Adorama's SD card, extra battery, and small camera container is roughly around 20+ bucks, so basically the k01 brand new is about $350. With that said I would have to say that for about $350 the K01 beats the nex3 or nex5 for the price.
And I really would want to get my hands on the 40xs. That lens is one sexy lil thing.

Have one, the idea wears out fast though. They should have somehow managed to get a larger filter on there without the need for a filter adapter. Especially usefull with polarizers, nd's, and others. It's also interesting how few filters are available in such a small size for the xs

I got an XS by mistake and sent it back but I did have a chance to examine it and play with it briefly. I now own a DA40 Limited for the reasons you mention plus the build quality on the XS - people complain about the 35/2.4 being all plastic but its build quality has never bothered me in the least. I was uncomfortable with the XS in that regard. I'm happy with the DA40 Limited for another $110 but I realize that optically they are supposed to be the same and others will value the $110 in their pocket more than I did.

I bought the pack with 40mm-xs lens, but sold it. The 40mm Ltd is better.

I use FA31mm, DA*55mm and FA*85mm on my yellow K-01. These lenses make it a nice and very capable camera. The colour is nothing to worry about, it stays yellow since it is true color rubber.

Price is always different. We had a one-weekend offer here for 405 euro for the black body. I paid just a little more.

Now, now, if you're the sort of person who thinks about things clearly, the K-01 might not be right for you after all...

I was obsessing about the K-01 myself, thinking it might be a good museum camera - the shutter is more of a 'shoop' sound than the 'KA-Chick' of my dSLRs. Then I read a rather unkind review that said the only people who would buy a K-01 are eccentric artists, camera collectors, and Pentax diehards. 'Artist' is debatable, but otherwise... I'll just plead guilty on all charges. Obviously, Pentax intended this camera for me! It would be rude NOT to have one! I'm still getting used to its differentness, but it's a good different. I've already noticed a tendency to shoot from a lower PoV.

The bumblebee or panda K-01s might look really busy with a zebra lens... so go for it!
