Um, why? I think it just bumps up the iso to compensate, no?
Slow lenses don't give enough light to the sensor to perform contrast AF fast and accurate and thus being slow and with more errors as result. The kitlens is just not so good for such a system camera with current technology.

For anyone whom has also shot with a manual focus film slr that also has a better than average focusing screen - think of it that way. Because it used to be (back over ten years ago when film was still king) that if one used the average f5.6 lens (or worse) on a film slr camera that part of the focusing creen would black out a bit and not quite work properly.

I think that when you mean bump up the iso to compensate that you are in fact talking about exposure - which would work with most any camera. But for focusing - the K-01 needs all of the light that it can get - there is unfortunately no override for this.

Sometimes when I put on an nd filter say 3 stops on to the da15 and da21, the k1 will refuse to focus.....I guess the focus system need more light.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the K-01 is a passable video tool and a very good still camera under certain light conditions, especially with faster MF lenses, but isn't a low-light or fast-motion-still champ. I guess it is a MILC platform for Pentax MF lens collectors, which suits me just fine.

I'm glad I bought one but I'm not surprised Pentax doesn't seem to plan to extend the idea.

and a perfect camera for those who already own fast lenses. I see in your list 50mm/f1.4 and 35mm/f2 and those two should perform excellent on the K-01.

Lens' i've used with zero issues on the K-01... 60-250 f4.0, 300 f4.0, 12-24 f4.0, and every prime works well.

Have very minor issues with ones such as...10-17 variable aperature at the lower end, but rare. Ab it worse with the 18-135 variable - but especially at the lower end, needs a lot of light on that lower end.

Lens' that don't work all too well... The 50-200 that ironically is available in one of the kits, the 55-300, and I could easily speculate that the 18-270 might only work well outdoors.

As for the certain lighting conditions... It just depends... I've used the 60-250 with a meter reading of iso200, f5.6, shutter of longer than one second - and it works just find a majority of the time in those exact lighting conditions. But then again, even if it would not work, I actualy prefer using the manual settings whenever possible. I've also found that the K-01 excels in manual modes

The Tamron 18-250 makes strange "wee-ooh, wee-ooh" noises in a dim room.

I can see how it would be frustrating if I wanted to use the K-01 as my only camera and stick long zooms on it. I have the luxury of also having a dSLR, and the K-01 is really fun as a second body. It does seem to naturally lean towards primes and smaller lenses, which appeals to me. I used to go shooting with just an ME Super, a fast fifty, and a 28mm in my pocket. Not that any of the pictures were any good...

Eh .... I assumed everyone knew that part. the 35/2 is my favorite lens. If I could get it off the K10D I'd put it on the K-01 - but then the K10D would whine and complain. The 50/1.4 is another AF classic - I sold my A50/1.4 since I have this one.

Actually, the best K-01 photos I've ever taken - the ones that make me say, "Wow!" were with the 35/2.

Due to my vision problems using ANY VF the K-01 is a K-5 that I can actually use.

As soon as I get home from work I am retesting all of my lenses to see if AF is improved. Keeping my fingers crossed.
