Blocky Image

I just got a K-01. Some of my first results include the following, taken at ISO 12,800, 77mm /1.8, 1/60s:

This is 1:1, processed by LR4.

What is going on here?

Maybe LR4? Maybe a bad SD card? Maybe a bad camera?

I'm guessing bad SD card. What brand/size/speed? My K-01 did not care for the first card I put in it (a Kingston 16 Gb Class 10), but later I found that other cameras and readers also had issues with it.

This was an older Transcend 4GB Class 4 card, one I've had for a while. I think I'll try another card next time. It might be time to go shopping.

Thanks for the reply, THoog.

It might be card related. Try cleaning the card contacts, then shoot again with RAW and JPEG output. That will eliminate LR4 from the equation (which is almost certainly not to blame).

From my experience Transcend is a good company, but that dates to my CF use not more recent SD cards.

Let us know how it comes out when you get a new card. I'm a fan of having at least two cards for my cameras just as a matter of needing to have a backup plan. I also feel that smaller capacity cards (4gb) tend to be a bit quicker and more dependable. The bigger the card you fill, the more to lose.

The first K-01 I got from BH had a similar problem - the first image of the day I shot looked just like what ypu've posted. It didn't matter what SD card I used, the problem was repeatable. I sent the camera back and got a new one.

Interestingly, the first camera came loaded with a firmware version that was released after production had ended (1.0.2 I think) so someone had their hands on my 'new' camera before I got it.
