I've never used the green button until now.

I've had all kinds of digital Pentax starting with the istD, but I've never used the green button. After buyng the K-01 with the 40mm kit lens, I decided to get one of those fun lenses. The Rokinon 85mm. Since this is manual focus, I knew that I would be using focus peaking in most cases. Green button, programed. It works great. Focus peaking really helps with this lens, and what a lens it is. Very sharp. Wonderful build quality too for a lens under 300 bucks? Man, this thing is a steal for a fast prime. It looks great on the K-01 too.

The green button is more programmable in the newer bodies, I believe he set it to enable/disable focus peaking.

I did. I don't know if I want to use focus peaking with auto focus lenses, so it's nice to turn it on or off with the push of a button. I suppose I could have used the red button, but you never know, I might actually want to take video.

The Rokinon 85mm is on my short list of must have lenses. Should be a great portrait lens and yes I'd imagine that focus peaking would come in very handy with this kind of lens especially with the capability of having such a shallow depth of field. I agree that it is a steal at under $300. My brother wants to get one for video on his T3i.

Can you post a pic of it mounted to the K-01?

Not bad! Thanks for the shots. Can't wait to get my K-01 if it ever stops being on backorder. Do you use the focus peaking for this lens? General impressions?

Yes, focus peaking works great. My general impression of this lens is that it is surprisingly well built. Focus ring is well dampened. It's heavier than I though it would be, but it's got fast glass so this is to be expected. Haven't had much chance to take many photos with it but what I have done is quite pleasing. A very nice lens and considering the price, it's a great lens.

Thanks for the response! Really want to get this lens fairly soon. From what I hear it's a damn good portrait lens!

Well, this lens is one of the best value lenses in the DSLR world. The K-01 makes it look smaller too

I'm changing my mind a little on focus peaking. When it comes to text, focus peaking tends to muddy things up a bit at the edges and you don't know for sure whether it's in sharp focus or not. I decided to turn it off and trust my eyes viewing that great lcd in the back. I think it works better for me. This is a crop at the box. f1.4. Another shot at f1.4. Neither are worhty, but tests only. This lens seems sharp to me.

I get what your saying. The focus peaking on the Q sometimes gives me the same problems.

I assign focus peaking to the Red Button so that I can switch it on/off quickly (I don't shoot much video). I'm finding using FP and the OK button to zoom in works best for me. Focus peaking does seem to trick my eyes, so that when I chimp a shot, it lacks the white edges and "feels" soft, but then looks fine after I upload it to my PC.
