beachvolleybal

I was at an exhibit game yesterday in Antwerpen, Belgium. So I made stills and put up my K-01 for one set at one off the games.

Don't tease Ron, show us the match!

I'll have a short film to throw up soon - Shooting this coming Sunday and the next, comedy/drama/day-in-the-life piece, written by a mate, all set in a hairdressing salon.

Cannon fire

Just a video I took at the fort. I was kind of curious how the sound would be on the cannon shot. Also, after I watched it I noticed a little girl in the background going across the grounds that didn't know they were going to fire the cannon, she jumps about two feet and turns in mid-air when they blast the thing off. The ground just shakes.

I've found the on board mic to be more then adequate for picking up the sound of a film Slate/Clapper, and most dialog, clear enough to make for easy syncing with the pro recorded audio from a Tascam or Zoom recorder.

The auto-limiter switching in and out is a pain in the butt when filming bands and loud activities, but a cheapy shotgun mic fixes that.

Hey Ron, wheres the beach volleyball??

Did you have any probs with the fast motion of the players or the ball?

I shot a trio of muso's last Saturday, on the CU's of the singer, where there were lots of curls in her hair and she moved quickly, there were macroblocks from the compression rate being too high.
On the Sunday after that, there are some spots in our short film shot where an actor turns and moves quickly that gets the same sort of macro blocking.
In both cases, it's there for one frame then back to smooth.

And without the Macroblocking.

And here's one we prepared earlier, not on Pentax.

woah, WTF? - there's a vertical and horizontal compression artifact in that second image - It's not in the paused frame in VLC, but is in the snapshot - I think VLC compressed it in the process of turning it in to a jpeg.

In the video when paused, I can count the number of pores on Mandy's skin.

And here's the edited video that the still captures are from, edited by a mate whose short film I'm D.o.P. on, and shot on my K-01, and another mates 550D.
