Firmware Frustration

I get the readme file and the fwdc241b.bin, but cannot open the update. My SD card is in my laptop. How to transfer from computer to card It must be something simple, I cannot figure it out. Instructions say to "copy the Firmware file to the root directory in the SD card". ?????????????????????????????????????? Help please!

If your SD card is in the laptop, it shows up as a drive (in "My Computer"), right? The root is simply the top level folder, which has no name, so it is just "E:\" or whatever the drive letter is. You don't "open" the .bin file -- just copy it to that drive from wherever you downloaded it. Then stick the card in the camera (make sure you have a full battery) and proceed...

This is for your K-01? If so, just copy the BIN file to the sd card. Then insert the SD into the K-01.

The K-01 manual, on page 197-8, says to select the Firmware Info/Options choice in the tools setup 3 menu, the press the right arrow, at that point if an updated BIN is on the SD card you can choose to run the update. 2 things - you can not go back to an earlier firmware on the K cameras and make sure your battery is charged before you begin.

You can access the K-01 manual in PDF here:

Finally success!! I knew it had to be something simple, kind of like me. I was downloading to my main drive rather than the K drive for the SD card. I almost lost a nights sleep frustrated to pieces.

Thank you for your help as always. Where do I send the bill?

Now I can update the firmware on my K-7.

Glad to hear it. After a while, between updates, its an old rusty skill. Hope the firmware adds some good uses to your camera.
