Debating on K-01.. Photo compared to K-R?

Been looking into a K-01 with 40mm lens for a good lil while.. Especially with the price lowering that has happened since Black Friday. I already have a K-r and backup K10d. I have read the reviews on body and lens. I do not necessarily need the better video capabilities. I thought the size was substantially smaller than my k-r but the specs say differently. Does someone have a photo with both bodies side by side?

It's not substanitally smaller, although the smaller grip and lack of an overhang for the flash make it more compact. You can check camersize.com for side-by-side views. I don't have a pic next to the K-r, but here's one with a K100D, which is slightly wider than the K-r, but otherwise similar:

Great! Thanks guys.. Still somewhat smaller. I may have to make a trip to Adorama or B&H to feel it in hand.

Yeah, until you handle one, you really won't know. Even then, I wasn't impressed when I first held one, but I love the brick now.

The K-01 is about as small as a K-mount camera can be because of the register distance. They actually squeezed the stuff behind the shutter by about a third.

Take a K-r, chop off the flash/OVF housing and the grip, stick the guts of a K-30 in it, then complain because it's not a Sony NEX, and you've got a K-01!

The K-r is actually about the same size as the K-01.

Yeah, but the Shake Reduction system on mine doesn't work worth a flip.

Okay, so for once, I forgot to say "digital". Agreed, the main mass of the K-01 is pretty close to the K-r, less the prism/flash housing and grip. To me, the K-r was just a slightly expanded K-m/K-x, with room added for the AF points and hybrid battery holder. In my mind, the K-01 is a logical successor to the K-m/K-x/K-r, with a restyled body. If Marc Newson hadn't been involved, I suspect it would have looked like a bloated Lumix GF3.

I think we have a pretty good idea how small a (>>>DIGITAL<<<) K-mount camera can be with current technology. Now, when they can make the sensor and SR gear as thin as as a piece of film (with 3mm left over for the LCD), THEN they can make the ME Super-D I've been dreaming about for 10+ years. Not holding my breath...

Side thought - it's been discussed before that the K-01 has less filters than the K-5. Possibly because they were working so hard to squeeze the back end?
