Retro look for K-01

I did some photoshop trying to see how a k-01 would look with those retro leather grips, and also a better color combination where the base is also silver, I think that is what gives it the retro look. I wish pentax offered them like this.

The timer lever might be a little overkill, lol

I have not been a big fan of the k-01 look but this really improves things. I wish Pentax had considered this as an option or add on.

Great work! You should start producing those kind of leather kits. Especially the first one impresses me, looks almost like a Rollei 35.

Send this to Pentax, have the K-02 look like that! Add a tilt screen and EVF and people will love it!
Well, that and maybe new AF, sensor, of course, as technology keeps evolving. A metallic finish with leather would be great.

Edit: Even the yellow 'leather' looks great!

You can buy an after-market leather skin for the SONY RX-100 for $16 New Gariz Sony RX100 Leather Skin Black Sony RX100 Body Skin DSC RX100 | eBay

I bought one and love it. It is low tech stuff. Communicate with the seller of that item that you want the same thing for the K-01 and I'll bet it will be forthcoming.

i think it would be difficult to make something for the k-01 because its textured rubber with vertical lines, so a sticker like that would not stick properly. The rubber would have to be replaced. Just like there were different grips offered for the k-x / k-r, there would have to be different grips made by someone.

I was thinking more along the lines of a real lizard or snake skin which would replace the rubber just like you would do with a real film slr.

maybe if we did a actual survey and sent it into aki-asahi.com who did the gret skins for the Q maybe they'll make one for the K-01...

Yes, yes!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want to put a replacement skin on older film SLRs, you must first remove the original skin, right? It doesn't just stick on top of the original?

You are correct! You could try to glue a new grip onto the old, but it might stick out too far and interfere with things like the timer lever. Peeling off the old leatherette isn't hard - I had to do it to repair my ME Super on occasion.

yes, a new skin would have to be made for this, but since the doors are part of the skin, it is more difficult in this case.

So replacement leather could just be the front parts, and the doors could remain the original rubber, unless someone can manufacture the doors differently.
