Problem with M mode and Green Button

I've been happily using a couple of manual focus Pentax lenses using M mode and the green button to set exposure. Today I can't seem to access M mode. The camera remains in AV for all turns of the dial. When I mount an AF lens and try again for M I can still only get AV on all settings apart from B for bulb. Any suggestions please?
