Focus Trapping (aka Catch-In Focus)

Is it possible with the K-01 ? Can't seem to find a way to focus trap with manual focus lenses (i.e. press the shutter, and turn the focus ring until it releases the shutter). I have it set to Focus Priority (i.e. not release the shutter until the subject is in focus), to no avail.

Settings:

- AF Release Option : Focus Priority
- AF Mode : AF
- Lens: MF

Tx

On the K-5 and others, there is a menu option to enable Catch In Focus. I did not see this option in the K-01 menus.

(To the best of my knowledge) Unfortunately no: You cannnot have focus trap (I prefer to call it Catch-in-Focus) with any Pentax (DSLR or mirrorless) camera in live-view mode. The camera will fire irrespective of focus settings whether the subject is in focus or not.

Here, Ole confirms: No CIF on the K-01.

Pretty sure you can do CIF with the K-01. I have used a manual lense a few times on my K-01 and am pretty sure that I was able to hold the shutter down and then it took a pic when it was in focus.

You will want to have the focus set to spot though, and I am pretty sure that you need to leave the af/mf switch on af.

I will verify when I get home and post the appropriate settings if it is working how I think I remember it working.

Tx everyone, that confirms what I thought, too bad as I find it quite useful when attempting to photograph a moving subject with a manual lens.

The K-01 has focus-peaking which is very useful. I use both a K-01 with focus-peaking and K-7 with CID (focus trapping). I prefer focus peaking (K-01) with manual focus lenses: it is more accurate.

Focus peaking is awesome. No need for CIF with it.

In any case, I confirmed for myself that CIF is not available on the K-01.

If the camera does not detect an AF lense, it automatically puts it in MF mode.

If we were able to get the firmware decrypted, I am pretty sure CIF could be implemented, even if it wouldn't be very useful with focus peeking.
