Well I missed the groupon deal so I went this route. I feel a little more confident buying from amazon directly and getting the $20 extended warranty (to 3 years from adorama).

will this work ?? can we buy the adorama or bhphoto warranty for our amazon cameras ?

Well, I still have 7 days left of my window, but I really wanted to have one for this weekend so I ended up getting (well, it is in the local FedEx facility for delivery right now) a "like new" black version with the 40. I still really want the yellow, for some crazy reason, so I changed the shipping method from overnight to 2nd day, just to save the extra 4 bucks (I know, I know) and it revised my window when I changed the shipping method. I still have the same end date, but it moved up my initial date to the 4th. So, now the window is the 4th - 7th. I find that pretty telling that they are really expecting the yellows to arrive next week.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do if/when they say it is getting ready to ship. I have done the math and I can break even if I split the lens and body up, even if slightly used.

Watch Amazon, they matched the prices, but only if it was sold directly from them. I should have gotten in on the Amazon white version, but I decided to "sleep on it" and it was all sold out the next morning. It was there ALL day long too and I just watched it.

For what it's worth, I ordered a yellow one on January 9th, and my estimated arrival date is January 31, 2013 - February 28, 2013. So I guess I could still have a long wait ahead of me.

They probably stopped making the K-01 around the middle of last year (anyone who gets a backordered K-01 and can check your EXIF in Photoshop for manufacturing date, please do and let us know!). Black Friday wiped out the stock that B&H, Adorama, and Amazon had sitting around. The sales leading up to Christmas got the rest of the stock that Pentax USA had, and the backordering delays began in late December / early January. I assume the delays are because they are coming from Japan / the Phillipines via container ship.

It's probably not any comfort, but my replacement shutter assembly took about a month to get from Japan to Arizona.

Edit: In another thread, it was confirmed at CP+ that production has ceased and they are selling off old stock.

I suspect a ton of buyers have spent the last month stocking up on assorted Pentax lenses. I've loaded up with 3 add-on AF lenses, and also disposed off all my MFT AF lenses. If amazon doesn't come through, the bottom might fall out of the pk lens market for a month or two https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/images/smilies/lol.png On the positive side, I've had amazon ship out a back-ordered item with no warning (after 6-7 weeks of ordering) and it never had a ETA assigned.

Yeah, I handled a K-01 mock-up last summer, and was unimpressed. When they did the first price drop in September, I bought one - partly for the quiet shutter, partly to support the brand, and partly to spite the reviewers. You have to use the Brick for a week or so before it grows on you. It's an acquired taste, and definitely not for everyone.
