New K-01? Register it in the database.

With all these new K-01s there ought to be more registered in the database. Have you registered yours?

I've added a link to the first post. I'd only expect the most passionate users to actually know about the serial DB

What is the point of a S/N database? I don't get it.

I knew there were databases for some problematic SDM lenses, that I get (S/N, problem or no problem). I haven't heard of camera databases.

For example if you got an used 645D, you might find some information here through SN. It's a little bit like census.

Still don't see it. What useful info would it provide?

A couple things - it serves as a repository for the SN if you were to have a fire or some other disaster wiped out your records, it helps buyers of used cameras and gear find out more, it can also serve to alert folks about stolen equipment, it also can help with identifying problems that might be confined to a specific production batch by serial number (like the stains on the K-5 at the beginning), etc.

just ignore the SN then, if it's useless to you.

Actually I've seen a number of the original K-5's throughout the entire manufacturing process that had issues with sensor burn - most of them caused in while recording video

But didn't new ones come with the stains at the beginning and the later ones are from use but not a manufacturing issue?
