There are other, unspecified, updates too.

There's some (at least to me) delay when taking a picture; or maybe its the changes in the LCD brightness when the camera takes the picture.

The good news is you can revert back to the previous firmware (as I have done going back to v1.01) so all is good.

Might just be me resisting change lolz so don't mind me

Here's what I have noticed so far (posted this in the comments for the announcement as well).

Write speed to SD Card on K-01 is a lot faster now.
Just tested with bracketing in RAW mode.
Before it would take a couple seconds to recover before the screen would come back on.
Now it comes back on almost instantly after releasing the shutter button.
This is with both Sandisk Extreme and Ultra 16GB cards.

AF seems like it may be even faster than in version 1.01.

That was my first thought. I can't even get the K-01 to play well with my Tamron 70-200. I can imagine the nightmare with the 560mm.

It'll be hilarious if it works fantastically with the 560mm lol...

Heh - at the recent prices you could buy 15 or 20 K-01 kits for the (imagined) price of a DA560.

So...is it worth it to upgrade to 1.02 from 1.01? I only use Primes.

I have been going back and forth with the new firmware 1.01 -> 1.02 -> then back.

I don't know if its good or bad that AF algorithm seems to have changed.

After updating the firmware I tested focusing outside the window (which is covered by screen: the one used in chicken poultries) and It grab focus of roofs and scenes outside whereas in the old firmware (v1.01) it will always focus on the screen. Repeated this a couple of times with different angles and got the same result.

This is not scientific and I know changes in the lighting could have affected the results. I feel I need to recharged all batteries before I can be confident of replacing the firmware again.

I will be keeping the 1.01 handy - I like it.

1.01

1.02

Thanks Salagubang! I think I will hold a bit longer and see if there's info on the benefits of this new firmware although it is great to see them still supporting the model. Although you'd think that it wouldn't be difficult for them to include a more comprehensive description of the changes.

Hows abouts updating the firmware for 5 exposure bracketing (and while using the IR remote)? I am dreaming.

I expect this would be pretty doable with focus peaking and a tripod. I have a DA*300 and Pentax A 2X-S teleconverter that I will be trying out, once this brutal winter ends.
