I'm just thinking out loud here but in a pinch couldn't some wiley tech-guys here generate a 3D print model from an original and send it to Amazon and have the little knobs "printed?"

Well, I just learned that you can't get mode dials from the source where I got mine anymore.

More on the K01 mode knob problem: I love the K01 so much that I have three of them; the knob has now come off the second one. As I did with the first, I glued it back on using two diametrically opposed spots of superglue. Then I tried to pull the knob off my third K01, it didn't want to come off; I resisted the urge to pry it off with a flat blade. Gluing it back on is easy and seems to work, but the big worry is losing it.

For the moment I'll just keep a knob watch lookout when using K01 #3. It has a later serial number than the other two; the first two had serial nos in the 430xxxx range, while #3 is 4321189. Perhaps Pentax has fixed the problem on later cameras?

Interesting,... mine is a 430xxxx too.

I've also found what appears to be a second weakness in the hardware - the mic input socket on mine appears to have developed a dry solder joint, or a crack in it.

The contact cement I used after my knob fell off has lasted thus far..

I just lost mine. Pentax won't supply the dial alone. They said to send the camera in for repair, which is north of $100 and leaves me without a camera while I wait. Guess I will keep an eye out for a parts camera. Grrrrrrr.....

I haven't used mine since I lost my knob

As was suggested by others, this may be a good job for someone with a 3-D printer, or a small machine shop. If anyone knows someone with a 3-D printer, or a machine shop, I'd be glad to pay for a replacement knob + S&H, assuming there'd be a minimum quantity for an order.

Oh I think it still works fine without the mode dial cap. The LCD indicates which mode is selected.

So, last night I decided to pull K01's out and check the batteries etc, as I haven't used them for a while. Because of this issue I always tug on the dial lightly first thing... popped right off!! Then I picked up my other K01, barely touched the dial, and that one popped off as well! What are the odds? :O

The guy at Pentax told me that it's not a common problem for the mode dial to pop off. I wonder how common or uncommon it actually is.

He may believe that or he's told to say it. Either way, the fact that BOTH of mine gave it up at once defies chance pretty much. I think the adhesive type was a mistake that Pentax is not willing to admit.

It appears to be the only mechanical issue endemic to all K-01's.
(mind you, I've also damaged my Mic in socket, probably from over use or a lead getting jerked on)
Perhaps it's more a matter of all those owners who are likely to report it are also those most likely to be on a forum like this, and thus would have read about it, expected it, and fixed it, without the warranty claims.

This sounds about right, if I hadn't lost mine, I'd have reattached with stronger adhesive, and that likely would have been the end of that......

Mode Dial Measurements

OK, here are some measurements. Also, to my best estimate, from the center of the register hole to the o.d. is ~5.8mm, and 17.2mm to the opposite o.d. The hole is located at the "M" on the dial.
