Yes, I think you're right. I formatted another card, took a shot and the image number was incremented by 1 from the last image on the previous card..
Oh well, no biggie

Actually neither of those procedures are the correct way to reset the file numbers.
Here it is (according to PENTAX support for various Optio cameras and works just the same for others):

Resetting the file numbers in the PENTAX K-01 and the PENTAX Q

Press Menu
Select camera setting 3
Select Memory >> 2
Select File No. and 'uncheck'
Format card
Take a shot and it'll revert to 0001.jpg
Repeat above steps and re enable File No. memory



Sorted on both my cameras now
