JPG Settings with POP - Need recommendations

I've been struggling with the settings to get good jpgs straight from the camera. I do not want to shoot and process RAW files. I've noticed that the photos I shoot are not quite as saturated, sharp, or contrasty as I would like. What are some recommended settings for the K-01 to achieve this? I think Portrait mode is better, but when I tweak the settings, it transitions very quickly from "not enough pop" to "this is artificial"

Any tips and settings you might share are greatly appreciated. (For reference, if it helps: I enjoy the vivid mode in my Canon G10 as well as the normal mode for the Sony V3. Also, I really liked the colors of the K100D better than what I'm getting from the K-01 for the default jpgs)

If you have your Pentax software CD handy, install the Pentax desktop software and shoot a test photo in raw. Download it to your computer, and then play with the custom image settings. Those settings will correspond directly to what you can set in your camera, so once the picture pops, just transfer over the settings and you'll be good to go

Adam,

thank you for your tip. Unfortunately, my computer doesn't have windows installed (only linux). I'll see if I can find a way to run the software. in the meantime, I would appreciate some example settings that people here use.

Thanks again.

I think I found part of my problem - I like different settings per lens. My DA 40mm XS seems to have much more color and contrast than my DA 55-300. I find portrait mode to be just fine with the DA 40mm XS, but I feel like I have to increase sharpness, contrast, and saturation with the DA 55-300 (up 2 whole notches each). Is there a way to set different presets per lens?
