Sometimes slower AF isn't a bad thing ...

I was using the K-01 with FA77 in low light last night around my house and taking some snapshots of my kids. I was using AF even though focus peaking makes manually focusing the FA77 on the K-01 a breeze. There wasn't much available light in my living room that evening so the K-01 took a second to lock focus. During that fraction of a second delay my 6-year-old daughter got bored and dropped into this pose ... which actually made for a nicer portrait than what I would have taken if the AF had locked on a second sooner:

Sweet pic! As neat as all the auto-everything stuff is (and as much as we complain because it isn't better), sometimes slower is better.

I've found the AF on the K-01 to be pretty snappy (at least on par with my old *ist D and K10D cameras) with the DA 40mm and DA* 55mm even if it isn't as fast as the other cameras I use. The FA77 is slower in low light with the K-01 but it's still usable and I personally feel like the image quality from the 77 makes up for some of the AF delay in low light. The following FA77 shot that I took of my son was taken while he was moving ... he turned his head just enough before I pressed the shutter button that his right eye (camera left) just started to move out of focus from the shallow DOF, but I still like the photo:

Nice work. If there is a successor, adding the back screen of the MX-1 would make it a killer portrait machine.
