K-01 with Tamron 70-200 will not nail focus

Okay, so this is not a "I don't like my K-01" rant....I LOVE MY K-01! However, when using the AF with my Tamron 70-200 IT WILL NOT focus where it's supposed to. This afternoon I tried shooting a pine cone on the ground somewhere around 135mm and no matter what AF method I tried it would consistently focus in front of the pine cone and since I have focus peaking turned on I could see the ground light up yellow in front of the pine cone...sure enough the ground was in focus, not the pine cone. I have tried other objects and I get the same results. I tried shooting a waddling duck at 1/500 and f/4 and it would lock focus but it was quite obvious the duck was NOWHERE in focus. Now, I use the Tamron on my K-5 and it seems to like +6 for adjustment and that works fine. Has anyone else had this type of occurrence? I must also say that the main reason I got the K-01 was to use my SMC-A 50/1.7, 135/2.5 and Takumar 55/1.8 so MF is one of my favorite things to do. I must also add that using the Tamron 70-200 in MF mode works wonderfully. Help??

Several other users have said that the Tamron 70-200 and the K-01 are not a good combo. One is a twitchy slow focusing lens. One is a quirky camera that doesn't have the best AF.

On the other hand, I think some users have said that the Sigma 70-200 HSM works well with the K-01...

Thanks for the reply. I have to go to the Hard Rock Cafe tonight for a Battle of the Bands final (winner gets to to go to the UK for the grand final). I will probably leave the 70-200 on the K-5 and try the Sigma 18-50 2.8-4.5 HSM on the K-01. If my 135/2.5 had arrived today I would have put that on the K-01 instead. Manual focus is a real joy on the K-01!

It might be trivial, but the latest firmwares doe improve the AF on the K-01, although there might still be issues with some lens. If you did not install the latest firmware, it may be worth to instal it and try once again.

My 5 cents...

I have installed the latest firmware, which is the first thing I did when I got the camera. It's not really a big deal, I did not buy the K-01 for sports anyways. I took about 30 shots with my Sigma 18-50 2.8-4.5 HSM lens and every shot was right on.

I have had my k-01 for two days now and really love it. Tried to use it with the Tamron 70-200 today and mine did not work either.

Well long lenses aren't the best thing on the K-01. I did use the DA*300mm and works fine. My sigma 70-200mm didn't work with original firmware, but tested good on the latest one. Still I'm not using them on my K-01.

Glad to see you got another one of these. Your pictures were too good for you to be without it for long. I thought the AF motor on the K-01 wasn't strong enough for the big lenses. It probably would work better with something with a built in motor.

Yeah, that's probably the case. The motor turns my 18-50 quite well but I can imagine it struggling with a lens of any decent length.
