have you tried one of the eFilm LCD shades by Delkin Devices? I just found out that they are inexpensive might be worth a try.

here's a link from BHphotovideo
Delkin Devices eFilm Point & Shoot Mini Pop-Up DU3.0-M BLK

Best of luck! That thing costs about $30 here in Australia.

I like lenses w/ Quick-Shift on the K-01. The constant refocusing (due to contrast detect) is annoying, so I set the camera to do autofocus when I hit the AF button, not on shutter half-press. This way, I can ask the camera to AF when I want it to, or manually focus the lens with the help of focus peaking, without having to flip the AF/MF switch.

So, between the DA35 Ltd and the DA35 f/2.4, I would probably go with the DA 35 Ltd, since all DA Limiteds have Q/S.

Thanks, all, for your input. I ended up renting the 35mm f/2.8 macro limited and the 77mm f/1.8 limited to try them out. Both are great but I am starting to think that the 35mm is not wide enough after all for a second lens since I have the 40mm XS that came with the kit I purchased. I do like the quick shift feature very much. The 77mm is beautiful but I had no idea what the price was to purchase when I rented it so it's pretty much out of the running for the time being. I may rent the 15 and 21 next.

I've enjoyed using manual lenses with the K-01 and use my K-5 for the AF lenses it seems like my pattern. Current lenses:

Super Takumar 50 f1.4 25%
Helios 58mm f2 25%
DA 40mm 25%
FA 43mm 25%

I have been using the K-01 for almost three months. Most of the photos are family portraits, and some street and landscape photos.

I found myself using the kit 40XS most of the time:

1) 40XS (60%)
2) FA35 (30%, when I can afford to carry a large camera bag)
3) A50 1.7 (5% MF is fun, but too slow for moving kids)
4) DA18-55 (5%, use only when the FA35 is not wide enough)
5) Sigma 70-300 (0%, size is too big and AF is too slow on the K-01)
I use the 40 mm f2.8 - great lens!

The lens I use most on my K-01 is still the 16-45 f4.0 lens, as this is the most versatile lens I have, and is the best choice for general photography.

Next, would be the DA70mm. I absolutely love everything about this lens: Its compact size, and how it renders subjects. Sharp at f2.8, extremely sharp at f4.0 to f8.0. I usually don't stop it down to more than f8.0. If there are no constraints on shooting distance, the DA70 is my first choice.

The next two vie for equal time on the front of my K-01: The M100 f4.0 macro, and my Lensbaby 3-G.

I'm someone who uses a tripod for the majority of my non-event shots, and the K-01 with its electronic viewing screen, and focus peaking was made to be used on a tripod.

Since I bought my K-01, I use the macro and the Lensbaby much more.

Mike

I use a Sony RX100 in a shirt pocket as a snapshot camera... it defaults to 28mm equiv at startup. Thinking about maybe a Ricoh GR as my 'always there' camera, we'll see.

I don't have the K-01 with me every day. Probably because I have to wear it on a strap around my neck. I don't think of it as too big or to heavy, though... it's more like there's a real convenience difference between cameras you can keep in a shirt pocket, and those you can't.

Usually keep a Pentax 55-300mm lens on the K-01, to pick up where the Sony leaves off. Also, with the Hoodman loupe I've gaffer-taped on the back of the K-01, it is very easy to see moving subjects, like birds and airplanes, against a bright sky. Whether or not the K-01 can focus in time is another story... am still practicing with on TAv, at a fast shutter speed like 1/1000 and a small aperture like f/11, with the ISO floating between 100 and 800... manually focused at infinity then back about 1/4 inch of turn. Hard to get used to having very little DOF at 250-300mm (375-450mm equiv)!

Also like to use a 16-45mm zoom, and older 28mm and 50mm A-type primes in low light.

DA 35mm f2.4
DA 18-55mm
F 50mm f1.7 (will be replacing soon)
Sigma 24-135mm
Various manual focus Pentax M42, K, KA primes and Macros.
No news here but the K-01 like modern AF's best. The focus peeking outline is a bit coarse for me but not useless. Never the less, the rendering of the S-M-C Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 can make it worth the trouble.

I'm doing lens tests on a small number of manual 50-55mm normals lately, so I am not using any lens regularly right now. I also have a few medium-long manual zooms to test. Normally, I use the Sigma 17-50/2.8 EX DC HSM lens. It fits most of my needs for walking around.

@mndean -- please let me know how my old A-type 50mm f/1.4 stacks up... if it is one of the lenses you are testing.

Also, if anybody knows, on the 55-300mm lens, will you still get a sharp pictures if you use it from f/22 to f/32? Trying to find a manual snapshot setting for fast moving far away airplanes... where autofocus doesn't work too well... and I'm trying 1/500, f/22, ISO 800 against a daytime cloudy sky with the lens at about 250mm (375mm equiv)... and the focusing ring all the way over at infinity. Ideas?

Jon404, I hate to mention, but unless someone sends me one to test I won't know that. I don't even own a Pentax-A lens and have just one A-mount zoom of a different brand. I just missed out on a Pentax-F 50/1.7 at a good price last week. The lenses I tested include some not usually compared. I just am doing a simple test, all at the same f/stop and shutter speed and straight jpegs out of the camera so no manipulation. It'll be fun as I won't tell anyone which lens is which, just see what people choose before I let on what they are. I just need to know where on the site to post such a test. I could do it here, but I'll only get the K-01 crowd.
