K-01 -- the ultimate compliment

Walking around Del Mar, California. A beautiful clear day, postcard-blue sky. Outside the pricey Hotel L'Auberge, overlooking the sea. A young guy, draped with some sort of heavy-duty Canikon gear explosion. He looks at me:

"Hey, dude! Good to see someone's still shooting film! That's a way cool camera!"

I smiled, and went inside for a coffee and croissant.

He he... he must think it were some lomo camera
I know the k-01 with aps-c sensor could make picture this good;
But with the size and the design, i might try to looking at brand new Nex-3n at the same price.

I let a friend borrow my old Agfa Clack (ACP - Clack) medium format camera last week and when I took it out of my office closet I briefly thought, "This reminds me a little of my K-01!"

Small, brick-like cameras with pancake lenses aren't a horrible thing.

Great comparison, JJJ! Clack! Wouldn't that have made a great name for the K-01? "The new Pentax Clack!"

Snapsort shows the 01 compared to the 3n, for whatever that's worth.

When I first saw pictures of the K-01 in January, I was reminded of the Argus C-3, theo original "Brick".

You want a Brick? An honest-to-God Brick? I've got one, and it's the design ancestor and true inspiration for our K-01s. My proto-Brick, or alpha-Brick, is the Pentax 645N. I love that camera. It, and the K-01, just feel so good to use.

Actually, the A3000 was one of the first things I thought of when the K-01 came out. The A3000 was my first camera with an autowinder. There were some good things about it (ran on two standard AA batteries), and some inexplicable things (no manual or Tv modes, flash sync at 1/60 when everything else was 1/125, etc.). It wasn't anything like its A-series siblings, although the plastic body kind of foreshadowed the P3/30.

Nice one! Except that a user would have to be a "Clacker". Maybe not.
