Problems extracting firmware 1.03 on Mac

Hi

I haven't been able to extract the downloaded zip file for the K-01 1.03 firmware update on my Macs. I have tried various browsers, OSs and unarchivers but all simply produce another archived file which won't copy to an SD card.

Has anyone successfully extracted the 1.03 archived file on a Mac?

Is there a legitimate way to get a copy of version 1.01?

Thanks in advance

try running "unzip f" in the terminal, were f is the name of the file

Thanks Adam

But running the Terminal command still results in another file, which while named .bin is still an archive, and when that in turn is double clicked it produces another archive

I have had no trouble with firmware updates for my K5 or in the past with my K20D this is the first time this has occurred with a Pentax download.

I'm not too fussed to have 1.03 but I understand 1.01 successfully dealt with some autofocus issues.

Is there a way to get 1.01?

It is probably extracting correctly but OS X thinks the file is a MacBinary archive. You should not have to extract anything from the .bin in the ZIP file, because there is nothing to extract...

MacBinary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What I don't understand is why it won't copy to an SD card. How is the card formatted? Was it formatted with a computer or the camera, and is the write protection turned on?

I didn't have any problems downloading the 1.03 update from here and opening it with Unarchiver on my Mac running OS X 10.6.8. Try creating a new user account, then try opening and installing it from there.

Many thanks to everyone who has helped

boriscleto
I had formatted the card in the camera. But when I tried to copy the file named .bin, but identified in the OS as an archive, to the card I was getting the 'forbidden' road sign icon.

After reading your post I formatted it again and this time I could copy the file and everything went smoothly from that point. I'll check out the Wikipedia link in the morning.

Thank you for your good advice and once again thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Great introduction to the forum!

No need to read the Wikipedia entry. MacBinary is simply an obsolete file format from the old days before OS X...
